Default Can I disable the ignition key start chip so I can use a non-chip key?

Went to the locksmith to get some keys made for my 2001 and was surprised to know that it had an ignition key chip. $65 bucks a key. I had an extra key made that opens the door and runs the accessories but it only cranks the starter but the truck will not start.

Is this something that can be defeated so I can use regular non-chipped (expensive) key copies?

Nope! Most newer vehicles have same issue. Went to have an extra key made for my Chevy service van & ran into same issue. It was like $80 for the key

There's no way to disable it if you've lost your key. If you wanted to use a "normal" key, you can take one that you DO have programmed and secure it behind the steering column cover near the ignition using zip ties. The antenna ring that pics up the signal from the keys will "see" that key and allow you to put whatever key you wanted to get into the ignition and start the vehicle.

That's how I got around having to purchase two new keys (@ $110 per key) when I was down to only one with my 2002.

I bought a $20 little black box to disable the old VATS on my Chevy. Don't know if they have that for the Ford system.

Yeah, ford has PATS system. I have a tuner that can shut it off. I'm sure ford can, but won't. It also cost me 200 dollars a vehicle, to do that to any 96 and newer ford car or truck
