Better watch where you spray fluid film underneath.
What ever you do, don't spray the leaf springs ! ! ! Fluid Film will cause
the plastic pads on the end of the leaves to cause "clunks" in the leaves, and cause them to shift, and possibly cause the plastic to deteriorate. FROM EXPERIENCE!
I had to spray about 6 cans of brake cleaner in between to clean all that fluid film out!

Yes I will keep it off leaf springs, thanks. I bookmarked the pior posts where you pointed that out. Good info.
For others Fluid film is a type of rust preventive that never hardens. Sold on amazon.com and ebay etc.

My truck should be here next week and of course I'd like it to stay new looking as long as possible but I've always considered dealer "undercoating" to be a waste of money.
If you get "rust proofing" or "undercoating" from the dealer, what do they use and how?

I have an older 2004 FX4. I bought the truck from a fellow that worked for ford in Michigan( I live in AZ) Since I lived in many spots in the US that had rust problems I kind of have an Idea on how to help stop the corrosion. You will have to do it yourself. The dealers ain't going to help. The first thing I did was sand off the drive shaft by hand. Then gave it a few coats of paint(Gloss) I cleaned offf the frame the best I could and gave it a coat of cheap rustoleum. Then what I found works real well is I spent about 50 bucks buying That leak sealer stuff you see back in the RV section of Wally World. that gave the frame a rubberized coating. Did it all. took some time but its been a year and no Rust has reappeared. Just sayin, If it wasn't painted from the factory then its going to rust or corrode.

Bruce20 - Just purchased a brand new FX4 (custom build from Dearborn Michigan) and picked it up from the Dealer on March 1st -2014. To my surprise, 45 days later I look under the truck to find a number of major components have excessive corrosion issues. Anyone out there have the same issues? Anyone have a successful resolution from the dealer or from Ford? Feedback appreciated......
- no mention of whether or not this is the 1st time you looked at the undercarriage.
- no mention of build date.
- no mention of where you're located.
- no mention of where you picked-up the vehicle from.
- no mention of miles on vehicle when you took ownership.
- March, 2014 in MI had a LOT of snow, rain, freezing rain, etc..
