tough question, i like the 70s f100s for reliability and how easy they are to fix. but i like the 04+ body styles. i think im guna have to go with a 2005 f150 king ranch.

The 87-96 series was my favourite, they pretty much defined the 'truck' look to me, I still adore the models with the chrome tailgate inserts, I wish Ford would bring that back (not the platinum style, doesn't have the same look). Fuel injected but still simple enough that you could wrench on them when needed.

My current truck is awesome but I don't think I could fix as many things on it as I could on an older model.

basically if you had to pick 1 F150 to drive for the rest of your life what year, model, trim package would it be?
Not a 150 but 1953 save those chrome acorn bolt covers the flat head will return. I thought that untill 2011scame out. I cant wait till ford does the ecoboost treatment to the 5 liter v8 then they could junk that cast iron boat anchor in the super duty Bubbabud 2011 XLT SC EEEKoboost

Wow, this a tuff one to answer. I have had F-150's from the 70's, 80's,90's, and my 05. Loved every one of them. Wish I could take the best from every one and put it all together in a new one. Now that would be a truck.

Anyway, I agree with gone postal...I particulary liked the '78 ford with 4 speed manual tranny (even that gawd awful 1st gear granny!!) Lots of room under the hood and the 351 was a beast. Bench was comfortable too! Never had any problems...178000 I think she had when it was all said and done

Man I miss that truck.

Default Best F-150

I have bought new an F-150 in each of the following model years 1971, 1974, and 1978. I then bought an F-250 in each of the following model years, 1980, 1984, 1990 and 2005. All of these trucks were 4x4s all were V-8 powered and all were manual transmissions, All were basic work trucks. The earlier trucks were prone to rust and usually had holes in them by the time they were 2 years old. The 90 and the 05 model had a serious lack of power. All of these trucks were extremely reliable and were never given a task they could'nt perform. Other than scheduled maintenance I can't remember any failures or breakdowns that kept the trucks from running. As far as style goes they were trucks, an Aston Martin has style.

I recently bought a 2011 F-150 xlt super crew, with the ecoboost engine . This is without a doubt the finest truck I have ever owned or drove.I don't know about reliability yet, I only have approximately 3000 miles on it. As far as style goes its a truck.

I guess there is of course, a bit of a generation gap between me and most of the posters in this thread though. Not trying to be a wise acorn, but I guess people just tend to prefer what they grew up with.
When they don't work as advertised and the dealer tells you sorry. Put a 4.10 in my truck that was just supposed to work with the speedo because the sensor was a toothed ring in the differential. Now my speedo is off 30% because there is another sensor on the tranny that apparently according to the dealer can't be over ridden in the computer. So my speedo is now racking up about 4K miles for every 3K driven. Used to just go to a speedo shop and they would re callibrate the speedo not with today's computers.

Never found a mechanical I could not fix myself.
