- function
- most reliable
- best drivetrain
- dependability
- power
- ability to make general repairs
arguably what is the best year f150 ever made.

Agreed. By far the best looking truck ever of any brand. Pretty durable too. My brother rodded the crap out of our stepdads 289. 2014 XLT Super cab, 5.0 v/8, 6-speed auto trans
- Most comfortable,
- has the most things I like in a truck,
- tough, (I don't baby a truck, it's meant to work)
- plenty of power, (I only tow a single-axle trailer now)
- reliable (so far),
- ease of maintenance (so far)
- my last new (steel) truck
History -
My '68 F100 360 v/8 was tough & reliable, but got 6 mpg and didn't last but 250K miles.
My '74 F100 302 v/8 was junk. Barely got 150K out of this one. (rust bucket)
My '80 F150 was junk. Got to 125K before the engine started to use oil. (bad paint job)
My '88 F150 was junk. No good words for this one...only got 140K miles before it started to knock.
My '98 F150 4.6 v/8 was an OK truck, but I used it up by 173K miles.
My 2010 F150 4.6 v/8 - engine went out at 10K miles. Nice truck, but the reman engine Ford put in started knocking by 63K miles. Time to shuck this loser!
My 2014 5.0 v/8 has 22K on it now. 20 mpg in town, 22.6 mpg on the highway.
I've had Dodges and Chevy's in between my Fords, but every time they left me stranded somewhere and I couldn't get them fixed without giving up a paycheck. So, I returned to a Ford. I have never been stranded and not fix a Ford.
I do my own maintenance, I take care of my trucks, and I don't beat on them. To me they are just another tool. But, I sure like my last one. BTW, wife likes this one too.

Drove from San Diego to Santa Fe last week: about 1700 miles (all the way nonstop on the return). EcoBoost performed flawlessly. The magnaflow dual Catback seemed to give it ummmmph over the steepest grades. My only regret was 15 mpg average because (probably) 2 inch lift, 295/70/18's. I drove the truck (2014, Silver, 4dr, 5.5) to Santa Fe so my brother could help me install the Catch a Can I bought for $400 and some Autoanything sheep skins. After my common sense brother-in-law reminded me why Ford would not have installed the catch can after millions of dollars of research and development and cost analysis, I left the Catch Can in the box in the back seat area. The so-called "charcoal grey" "5 star" "sheep" skins turned about to be 2 star, intermediate blue, cheap-feeling, loose-fitting, $600 waste of money. (I'll sell any to a willing buyer). Saw some cool-looking trucks in Arizona, nevertheless.

With Lots of F-150's among close friends and family, I have to say that my 2010 5.4 4x4 Supercrew had by far the least amount of issues. It had close to 250,000km's (155,000miles) and was really solid. Majority was highway miles.
It only needed a front wheel bearing replaced at 20k and a pinion seal at 90k. Other than that it was fluids, tires and brakes. Literally nothing else.
The guy who bought it from me was blown away with how it rode and how tight the steering was along with zero creaks and everything worked.
In my opinion, I do think that ford has made progress in the reliability department through the years. I know of many friends that put more trouble free miles on their recent trucks that are 2-6 years old vs. the ones we were running 10-15 years ago. My new one is only at 14,000 kms, but has been great so far...hopefully it stays that way!

I really liked my 2010 rc 4.6 long bed work truck and my current STX super cab has been flawless. That said my 01 super cab xlt 2wd 4.2 was one tough truck. I sold it at 180k miles and other than a small oil leak, at the Rear main seal, it had almost nothing done in that time. It was a great truck. It still drove and rode nice and was very squeak and rattle free. I admit it was not a powerhouse, but as a nice work truck and parts delivery vehicle it did it's job well.
Worst problem it ever gave me was when the serpentine belt broke due to the tensioner failing and it broke my tranny cooler lines. I always carry tools and my wife and dad met me along the interstate to help
We spliced rubber lines in, double clamped it, replaced the tensioner and belt, and drove it 100 miles home. Have to say that was the weirdest thing ever as the tensioner made no noise or anything, it just literally fell apart, good one minute gone the next.

Ive had 4 Ford f150's, out of all of them, to me, the best looking and most durable, 1986 F150 xlt, standard cab long box 4x4, with 300/inline six with a 4 speed. Manual hubs, no air, crank down windows, slider. I had the truck for almost 10 yrs, bought it used with 170,000 on the clock. I replaced the clutch once, and u joints. Never let me down.. Great truck til I ran it up a tree, and destroyed it, came away with a broken pinky, and a broken heart.

Good ol truck
Honestly my 2001 4.2l v6 5-speed F150 is a trooper. She has 277,000 miles on her and will be over 300,000 after 2016. All original motor, gaskets, Trans. Never gave me problems. This truck will last forever if you take care of it. Looks wise, it's kinda basic, just all black with the step side. But she sure will never let me down !

based on:
function as a pickup as well as enough style to take the wife to dinner
most reliable
best drivetrain / dependability / power
feasability of shadetree mechanic to make general repairs without 10k worth of tools
basically if you had to pick 1 F150 to drive for the rest of your life what year, model, trim package would it be?

The 1951 F-1 I used to own and drive in the 80's; had a flathead V8. Ran like a top, once started. If it sat for a few days, I had to pour a half ounce of oil down the carb to get the compression up to fire!
