Hello,

I recently purchased a new 2010 Ford F-150 SuperCrew, my first brand new vehicle and truck. I love it and would not take anything for it.

While in a hurry to work this morning, I placed my Ford in 4H to get out of my gravel driveway and then forgot to take it out of 4H. I drove almost 50 miles in 4H and 20 of those miles on the interstate going speeds at up to 70-75 mph. The owner’s manual states that driving on dry pavement may cause driveline damage.

What are your thoughts on any future problems that I may have by doing this or what did I do to my Ford? Does anyone else drive there truck at this distance or longer and at this speed and what have you noticed with your truck?

No, I've never done that to my truck. Just how steep is your driveway that you need 4x4 to get out of it? I'm guessing you were just playing with your new truck so hey, it happens. I doubt you did any real damage to it, just don't make a habit of doing this.

Long term damage? Well, that one is going to be tough to call. Did you notice your truck bucking around sharp corners? Like making a right at an intersection? Even still, your truck is new and under warrenty. I'd just omit mentioning this boo-boo if something does go south as a result.

you should be alright as long as it isn't acting up. the other day i was going about 70-75 and accidentally hit it into 4 hi. it locked in for a second then i switched it back out.

yea u should be fine, just consider it really broken in now. good thing you didnt put it in 4LO though. youda fried yer transfer case crispy

its not the highway id be concerned about it would be any low speed turns that will do the damage. for future reference dont ever use 4x4 on anything thats not dirt, mud, snow, sand, ice, gravel ect. prolonged use on dry pavement can surely damage things but i doubt you did any damage, you would have heard some pretty nasty noises if you had.

This is the exact reason why I will never purchase a used four wheel drive vehicle.

Did you do any damage? If there's not any obvious signs of damage right now, the only way you're going to know is to have the driveline torn apart and inspected. If you're not willing to do that, then it's anyone's guess.

What about the speed though, I've heard different storys about running over 50 on the highway even if it is in the snow.

you can go as fast as conditions will allow. the 4x4 system has no top speed limit.

i doubt he was referring to 4 low, but in that case yes, youre right but i dont know of anyone that drives down the highway in 4 low.
