Most modern gears of that type are impregnated with lubricating materials and adding grease could likely cause binding and or premature failure. Spec sheets often say not to grease.

I ditched the nerf bars after two weeks but kept the brackets for steps. Love them! Use them every time I get in and haven't slipped yet. Pant legs don't get dirty getting out either.

I gave the bars to my brother but he only has one on because he's short two brackets. Anyone got brackets you're not using?

The gear design is a simple rack and pinion coarse mesh high torque, very similar to a window motor and regulator, there is no such thing as lubricating materials impregnated in the metal, at best maybe a Teflon coating but I doubt they even went that far. This design is consistent with electric motors used in automotive applications for the past 30 years that I know of, maybe even farther back. It's not aerospace grade by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm not really looking to sell the oem nerf bars just yet but if/when I do they will go as a set with brackets not broken apart from any of the mounting hardware, I'm certain you can buy just the brackets from a Ford dealer.

here is the thread. The brackets are easy to make with basic tools, and it makes a heck of a difference!

Forgot to mention you do have to splice the lights into the harness provided and they cover that with crimp connectors that have heat shrink outer skin.

This. OP. The question is:

Do you want to permanently FIX the problem, or just put a band-aid (grip strips) on it.

AMP power steps are a permanent fix. They extend well out from the truck body and are sturdy as hell and give you a very firm step front and back.

As to cost. One slip and fall will cost you more then the Power Steps will. There is also the old saying "Buy Once - Cry Once".

Yes. A quality product will often cost you some coin. That said, it beats going through one failed fix after another, and still being unhappy with the outcome.

I had shoulder surgery last year. While getting into my King Ranch with the stock running boards, I almost had to take another trip to the hospital. It had been snowing, and plenty of ice on the boards.

Had these installed, and no more slipping or ice problems. Since they reside right up under the truck body, they also don't collect ice or snow.

Excellent product!

Interesting, and you think they would actually use something so exotic on a window motor gear? LMAO Not going to happen scooter.

More common than you think, scooter. Years ago I designed a servo valve for ag chemical application that used sintered gears. Some were just stainless and others were copper infiltrated for improved strength and wear characteristics. They are slightly porous and get soaked in oil. You actually had to wipe the excess oil off before using and the oil that remained in the pores provided a lifetime of lubrication. If you greased them they would collect crap and either bind up or self destruct. Not to mention sluggish operation if the grease would thicken from being cold.

These gears were still much, much cheaper than cut gears so there goes your theory of being exotic, scooter.

Do you really think Amp Research would leave the grease out if it were needed. It's pretty obvious by the picture you posted that at least one gear is sintered and likely impregnated with something. You may want to rethink your addition of grease, scooter. Maybe you should call them and ask if grease is needed. It would be interesting to know their response.
