Well right now i own a 2000 ford f 150 xlt, am looking at the market to purchase a ford truck, which will be realiable on taking it out on camping trips, vacation trips, something with big space, good mpg, something for me and my wife.

it has to be at least above a 2003 models, i just cant make up my mind, been thinking about it for a year now.

Well you have a lot of options. I seems like you need at least a Supercrew. If you want minimal issues the newer the better. For camping maybe a 4X4 would be better. From what I have read on here the smaller engines do not provide a huge increase in MPG's over the bigger engines. I think driving style is the big determining factor here.

I would think a 2008 or newer Supercrew 4X4 XLt, maybe even Lariat, with the 5.4L would be your best bet. But here is the big and most determining question. How much do you have to spend?

Good luck if you do decide to buy.

Look at either an extended cab or supercrew with the 6.5' bed. XLT would be the most basic I would look at, because of the standard pwr locks/windows. If your current 2wd has worked so far, stick with it. The increased weight/complexity/cost and decreased mpg of 4wd may not be worth it. The 4.6 will probably be plenty, but testdrive it and the 5.4. Once again the 4.6 will generally be cheaper to buy and you may get 1-2 mpg better.
Good Luck!
