Default 98 F150 4.6 Thermostat Housing

This may be a dumb question but which way do you turn to loosen the bolts on the thermostat housing, now the reason I ask, I was going to change my thermostat, went to remove the housing and the bolts would not move, so I sprayed them and waited awhile and tried again 1 moved abit but then snapped so I just stopped and didn't touch the other, still appears to be sealed hasn't leaked or ran hot, no difference in performance at all been a week now, was I turning the wrong way I used the right tighty lefty loosey thing, any help would be appreciated

They're regular bolts, so lefty loosy applies. But they are pretty long, like 4 inches and thin. Sorry about your bad luck.

Wow bummer! Hopefully if you get the other bolt and the housing off, there will be enough of the broken bolt sticking up that you can get vise grips on it . Maybe try heating the bolt with a torch and see if it will break loose. Good luck with it!

If you're going to torch, torch the aluminum that the bolt is threaded into. That way when the aluminum expands the threads might loosen up.
