Default 92 5.0 to 5.8 swap

Hey I have a 1992 ford f150 xcab 4x4 with the 5.0 E4OD and is seriously considering a 5.8 swap to replace the weak high mileage 5.0, from what I already know Is the E4OD and motor mounts will be able to bolt up to a 5.8 but I am still ify on whether or not i will have to replace the wiring harness and the mass air flow to a MAF system? Something about 94 and newer has the MAF? Can someone clear this up for me and tell me about anything else I'm missing to do the swap?

How ambitious are you? If you are dead set on the 5.8 swap, I would recommend a complete donor vehicle with all the parts you are looking for.(95-96) The main reason is your transmission. The EEC on your truck also controls the E40D transmission. I have read where some guys actually run 2 EECs (1 for all motor functions, including MAF, and the other just for the transmission) If you are really ambitious then you could go that route. I just rebuilt the 5.0 motor on my 92 5-speed and did a MAF conversion so if you need some resources, let me know.

But if I get a 5.8 from a 91 to 94 truck or bronco will the EEC and wiring harness still work?from what i read on another forum is that it would but not 100%, and if u got any info on the map to MAF conversion it would defiantly be appreciated

If you find a 5.8 from a 91-94 truck or bronco that had a E40D in it then, you can use the ECM, wiring harness and everything would be relatively straight forward as long as you kept the speed density system. You will run into issues once you do the MAF conversion. The reason I suggested the 95-96 donor vehicle is because that was when Ford actually put MAF on the truck from the factory and it would be a lot easier with that vehicle. If you make the swap to the 5.8 speed density and then want to convert to mass air, you will need the following things.

1. ECM from a 95-96 Bronco/F150 with E40D transmission.
2. Throttle body to mass air meter Y duct (F5TZ-9B659-F) K&N makes one too.
3. Mass air meter housing and sensor that is calibrated for your engine injectors.
4. Mass air meter sensor wiring connector
5. Second oxygen sensor for the "left" side of the vehicle. (Alternately you can split the signal from the single sensor but that's not a long term solution)
6. Do research on the sites below that will help you determine the differences in the wiring harness of a speed density truck and a MAF truck. I personally got a harness from an 89 mustang.

OldFuelInjection.com is an absolutely awesome website that has a lot of valuable information.

Another good site for 5.0 but I'm not sure about the 5.8

MAF_conversion
I did my conversion somewhat differently from this guy but it gives you an idea of what is involved.

As far as wiring, know that the injector wiring will completely change. You will add the MAF sensor as well as an O2 sensor. Make sure you have quite a bit of patience and a little determination. If I can help more, please let me know.

Can I go without the MAF conversion and stick with the map? Or is that a have to thing? I was hoping for a quick and easy swap cuz the ford is my daily so the less time its in the garage the better!!

Even with mass air, you will still have a map sensor. The mass air meter gives the ECM an additional/more accurate measurement for what is going on with the air intake for the engine instead of going solely on the barometric pressure inside the intake manifold. That is what the map sensor does. If you are going to swap in a stock 5.8 from a donor 90-94 f150/bronco then you probably want to kept it as is to reduce downtime. The MAF conversion is a project in and of itself.
