5th wheel towing

I've looked at plates for goose necks that just bolt into the bed with supports through to the frame and also tracks that a goose neck plate/5th wheel can attach. IT looks like the trailers will clear the truck. I am just wondering if there is a reason no one seems to manufacture one for our trucks?

I'm stating right off the bat that I have no 5th wheel towing experience.
Now, isn't the point of a 5th wheel to evenly distribute the weight of a load over the chassis evenly (ie: as far in front of the rear wheels as the bed length will allow, while still being able to turn) thereby allowing a larger load to be towed more efficiently? If so, placing a 5th wheel gooseneck right on top of the rear wheels or just behind them- since the S'crew's 5.5' bed is so short, kind of defeats the purpose? Why not just get a class 3 (I think) hitch and an electric brake setup and net possibly the same results without comprimising bed usage?

Im not comfortable with the 5th wheel setup on a 150.I cringed when I read that post from inspector.Guess it could be done.I have seen 5th wheel arrangements on bigger trucks like the F250 or 350.My thing is,you should never subject your faithful truck to something it was never meant to do.Just my opinion here...Pete

It just sounds like a bad idea. So far as I'm aware the 150 isn't rated to take the weight of a 5th wheel trailer when loaded, so there's no option for it. Your not gonna have a 5th wheel trailer and just carry it empty. I can just see images of frames buckling, holes in beds, busted trailers and Godzilla... mainly cause I got a messed up mind set

I think the question is more about the length of the bed as opposed to the ability of the truck. I have never seen any crew cab short bed trucks with a gooseneck. Bed length is too short to warrant sinking in the cost versus just getting a class 3 hitch and an electric brake.
