just bought first ford f-150 05 model 4x4 with 5.4..sometimes i hear some sort of ticking in engine. only does it for maybe 10 seconds then quits..any one else experienced this...maybe normal...not sure...only have about 1500 more miles on warranty... 11-1-07..i just picked my truck up from ford dealership..they replaced cam phasers (i dont know what they are) and also replaced timing tensioner...got home and still heard the ticking..seems to be getting worse...no noticed sludge problem..so much concern here bought 100k mile extended warranty while at dealership...also ticking seems to be coming from bottom side of engine...thanks for your help!!!

i have the same problem with my 2004 f150 and trying to figure it out same work was done on mine and still ticks let me know if you get it fixed

This subject has come up allot of times in the 04-08 section,Look it up.Overall thoe its normal for the ticking sound.I have took my 06 to 2 stealerships,and 4auto shops and have talked to 3 ford techs at the michigan plant(after being on hold for like an hour each time,lol)and all have come back the same answer.Its normal for the 5.4.Some have them and some dont.AS why some do and some dont,not all 04-08s were built at the same factory.Now this is what i got from the ppl i have talked to,Your case may be diferent.Just thought i would off some info on it.
