Default 5.0 owners advice

I am in the market for my first truck and I have decided on Ford and I have decided on the 5.0. My question is for anyone who actually owns a 5.0.

1. What are the real world MPG your getting
2. If you could do it again would you get the EB?
3. Are the rattle issues with the 5.0 more common in specific years (what to avoid)

I am afraid of long term issues with the EB and really just love the sound and idea of a v8 thats always on (unlike Chevy and Ram with cyl deactivation) I have noticed there isn't much talk about the new 5.0 with the extra power for 2015+ and wondered if there were any other changes and or if the extra boost in power was really noticeable compared to the older 5.0

1. I average 16 MPGs. That's mixed city/highway with 33" tires.

2. Absolutely not. I see EcoBust as a marketing gimmick. More up front cost, more fuel cost, more maintenance/repairs, less enjoyable to drive, and a very small increase in power to show for it. Ford should invest more in V8 tech like GM...that 6.2 V8 trounced the EcoBust in real world testing.

3. I would strongly recommend a '13 or newer to avoid the issue the early builds had with ticking.

1.) I'm avg 19.2 over my first 5k miles

2.) I would choose the 5.0 again, as it was the reason I bought the truck. I owned multiple 5.0's that I loved and wrenched on and the nostalgia of the 5.0 was a huge factor

3.) I've had no problems so far.

I'm not saying the 5.0 is a superior motor, but for me it was the reason I found myself in a f-150 and I'm very happy with the decision.

2014 F150 4x4 (purchased new) with stock suspension, stock wheels/tires, stock 3.73 rear axle, Airaid CAI, Boral ATAK exhaust, 5-Star 91 octane performance tune.

(1) 16.1 mpg overall.
(2) No.
(3) No experience with the earlier coyote engines, but the three vehicles I had with the original 5.0 engines (1975 and 1986) were good!

(1) 16.3 right now with tune and mods

(2) I like it. But I would do ecoboost only with 3.73 or better gears from the get go. I am not closed minded like some here.

(3) Don't know. I don't even know what to listen for really.

1. I'm getting 19.4+ mixed driving with 3.55 gears and stock everything. (36k miles)

2. I have no use for the Eco. My truck pulls what I need it to and I'm not scared to rev it. If I towed heavy for a half-ton, I'd get the Eco. Whatever you end up getting make sure you have at least the 3.55 gear for the 5.0. 3.73 would be the best IMO, but 3.55 seems to be more common.

3. It was hit or miss on the 11's, 12's, and very few 13's. I haven't had it happen to me on the 2 13's I've owned. Make sure you get a car report and it could show if the vehicle was in the shop a lot for engine troubles.

1. Usually average 19 with mixed driving. 16 city / 20+ Hwy

2. Eco is cool, capable of wicked hp/tq numbers with just a tune. Really wanted one, but got a fantastic deal on my 5.0 and am satisfied.

3. Probably skip the '11s and early '12s. Think by mid 2012 they got it dialed in.

I love my '16 5.0L

1 commuting(city/interstate) 19mpg...cruising(2-lane hwys) 23mpg

2 No, I love my 5.0.....BUT, I am tempted to pay it off and buy another with the 3.5EB I like both, but I've had my V6 for 9 years, I wanted a V8.

3 I can't say, but after only 3.5k on mine I have had no trouble (in fact, my fuel efficiency increased about 2mpg)

Default 5.0 mileage

I have a 2014 F150 S/C with a 5.0 and 4x4, 355 rear axle....I stay around 18-19 mpg in town and 21 Highway. Keeping the speed down to around 60 mph I have seen 23+ mph.
