it was more of a torque motor thou, it didn't even have enough horsepower to get out of its own way lol, im not bragging on it thou it is a good motor reliable. the heritage was a good truck wish i still had it lol. do you have any pics of your bird ? i will like to see it

LOL..the 4.6L engine is one heck of a good engine! Almost to the end of it's life cycle though...It was better in the Mustangs from 96 to present..a high revving screamer...putting out 315+ HP now from only 281 inches...Then in '03 & '04 Ford put a Roots type Supercharger on it for the Cobra models...easy 425HP & the sky is the limit from there! Many Cobras are pushing 600-800HP now out of the 4.6 There is a all out funny car with 2300HP even. So don't knock the small Modular 4.6...

I had one in my 97 F150 & it did pull my 25 ft. trailer but was not happy about it ...the 5.4 does it MUCH better...there is a new 5.0 coming in a year or two for the F150 & Mustangs...400HP & great Torque numbers! But the 4.6 has been a great long lived high output engine for many years...our 04 Mach 1 has the 4v 4.6 & puts out 310 (underated) HP & get 26-28 mpg! So much better than my 5.0's ever did.

The torque was kind of lacking in this engine. The big advantage over the 5.0 was that you could rev them up tight.

Wasn't the smallest ford V8 the 255? I know that there was a 260 back in the day but I think that the 80 and 81 Mustangs had a 255 as an option.
