I dont understand why the op is asking this question, we can't decide whats best for you, you have to decide for yourself based on your environment and what you do with your truck.

I was more or less just seeing what people thought about one or the other. Not asking witch one to get or any thing like that.

The 4x2 trucks here in the northeast are almost viewed with disdain, and of course sell for thousands less than a similar 4x4. The new car dealers rarely bother ordering new 4x2 trucks. Most 4x2 trucks you will find around here are used stripped down work/fleet trucks.
That is very true, but thats also the kind of truck I like.

LOL, to go along with the "have it and not need it" philosophy, I have a question.

Has anyone ever heard someone say "Man, I wish I didn't have 4 wheel drive"?

That, and "Man, my boat has too much horsepower" are statements you rarely hear.

Thats true in most cases, but now a days people cant drive so they need all the help they can get. It also is like saying my wife is to pretty and my car is to fast.

The only fullsize truck I ever bought as a 4X2, was a '91 F150. I felt like I only had 1/2 a truck, my winters can get pretty severe. Having said that, I've had two Rangers, both RWD, but, I've always had a fullsize 4X4 to back them up. Only this past winter did the little Ranger not hack it, and that's likely my own fault, my tires needed replacing, but I use a little forethought at times when it's nasty out. I will use 4X4 a number of times through the winter.
My logic, 4X4 is to get you out of trouble after 2 wheel drive get's ya stuck. I think most of us will agree, when you stick it in 4 wheel drive, you're "really" stuck!!LOL

First, thank you for being Union. Second, I have a job that doesn't get to close no matter what, and am currently shopping for my first truck now, and 4x4 for me is a requirement. For years I have had an old all wheel drive Subaru Forester which has been awesome for anything under a foot, but as the DC area has had an increase in 2 foot storms in the past few years, I can only consider an upgrade. My take is this, can I get by with a rear wheel drive vehicle, sure, but if I can have better odds with 4x4 I will take them. Also I see it as if I hurt someone else due to going cheaper, not sure I could forgive myself. Heck, my coworker had a killer wrangler set up and a few times only him and the former marine with the f250 got in during the worst of it.

I'll start by saying I like 2wd cause they can be $5000 to $10000 cheaper depending on the truck. I also live in a state with snow MI and have never had a issues in the snow. Few more reasons I like 2wd are less parts to go bad, a little better mpg, and can be more fun to drive when your doing stuff that most people would have to use 4x4 to go throw. Sense I know people are going to say something like it better to have it and not use it then to need it and not have it. My answer to that is if I get stuck I know how to use a shovel and if that don’t work I just call some one to pull me out.
I myself prefer a two wheel drive. I never go off road and it never snows here in this part of Tx. Even though I can afford a 4x4, I could not justify paying the extra money for something I may never ever use.

Up until I had drove my new 02 f150 2x4 for a year I thought I had to have a 4x4 here in Tn. I found out the limited slip rear end worked great in 6" of snow with no problems. I gave my son the old blazer and didn't have another 4x4 until I bought my 11 last year. I done a lot of looking but no luck finding a 2x4 so I went with a 4x4,I have a lot of wheel time in bad road conditions but my wife doesn't.She used it to get to work this past winter and never had the first problem or scare, the 4x4 with traction control took care of my bride of 31 years so we can make it another 31 .

I'll probably always have a 4x4 truck, but I fully realize I don't "need" it. As long as I have a limited slip rear-end, good tires and weight in the bed I can get anywhere I want to in the snow, and a ton of places off-road in 2WD. I know because the 4x4 has been broke on my current truck for the last 2 years and the truck still performs well enough I haven't bothered to fix it.

But I like having 4x4 because it makes my life a little easier. I heat with wood, and if the ground is a little soggy I can still get my trailer right up to the wood, saving myself from using a wheel barrow to load up my trailer. Or when I shoot my rifle I can drive my truck to my range in the fields when it's muddy, saving me from carrying my rifle, ammo, a table and seat a few hundred yards.
