Same here. I live in Canada. Finding a 2WD truck on a dealer lot is like trying to find a nun in a whorehouse.

Few more reasons I like 2wd are less parts to go bad, a little better mpg, and can be more fun to drive when your doing stuff that most people would have to use 4x4 to go throw. Sense I know people are going to say something like it better to have it and not use it then to need it and not have it. My answer to that is if I get stuck I know how to use a shovel and if that don’t work I just call some one to pull me out.
Where are you buying trucks that it cost an extra 10 grand for a 4x4???

Either or when picking the unit that works for you !

I have lots of trucks in many different sizes, 2 wrd, 4x4, singles, tandems, and tri-drives as they each do different things.

My new to me Uoot is a 2 wheel drive since I plan on driving across America for the 5th or 7th time.

2 wdr works just fine as it cost next to nothing on fuel, less wear and tear, and re sale is good since there hard to come by here in Alberta Canada since 99% are all 4x4.
Winter tires with studs are allowed here in Alberta in the winter time, so traction is not an issue, light weight tire chains if needed since I'm oil-patch/ farmer who has time if needed to chain-up.

My 4x4 in this truck that is very well looked after needs the front diff re-bearing at $1600 and gone threw 2 front drive shafts at $400 a pop, not bad considering I've got 240.000 kms of awesome trips from it.

I found this one from a gramps for $10G with 80.000 kms on it. 8.1 L power house.

My dad still drives his first ford he ever owned. 87 years with 1 motor re-build at $235 complete top and bottom end. $16 to put new asbestos pads on clutch.

Buy the unit you need since it will take you places you want too go.

A man needs 2 things in life, and good truck and sleeping bag !!!
The truck will take you to work, play, the lake to go fishing, and home,,, if the old lady is mad at you, it will take you to a back road some where so you can sleep in the cab now that your packing the sleeping bag, Ha.

Pal Don some where in a America.

With my job, I have to make it to work on time. This past winter, we had 15-16 inches and I was still expected to be there (Even more so, I expected myself to be there).

So I don't have the time to call someone or shovel myself out.

I've NEVER owned a 2wd truck and can't really imagine why I'd want one.

I think that there are 2 kinds of drivers in this world. Those who get 4wd because they feel like they need it....then they call out sick when it snows.

Then there are people like me. I go to work no matter what. 3' of snow, I'm making the effort. If I get there and my work shuts down, then I drive home but I've always been the type of guy who shows up and does his job. Not to mention that, I'm a union employee. If I show up and they send us home due to inclement weather, I'm still paid for an 8 hour day.

I also use my 4WD on a relatively regular basis. My wife and I own a vacation home in the Pocono Mts of PA and we use it pretty much all year long. We can get heavy snow in the winter and I use my truck to get us to the ski resorts because my kids and I ski. In the summer I use the 4WD in my truck to drop my fishing boat into several different lakes where I bass fish.

It's all personal preference but there are those of us who honestly use their 4WD regularly and just can't imagine doing all that they do with a 2WD truck.

I agree totally that one has the option too choose what works best for them. 4x4 or 2x2 since each fit in some where in the grand-plan !

I've gone in many directions of many kinds of units so it makes no differences so long as I get the best bang for the buck.

This unit paid for its self 10 or 20x's over even after the t-case give up the ghost 10 years ago as it still runs strong with just under 1 million miles/ 1.6 mill kms. $1000 we paid back then for this gem

The cost of used trucks sky rocked here in Alberta Canada, so we bought this unit for $1.400 off the county with 280.000 kms, we racked up another 200.000 plus on it.
It will become the new bail wagon in 2018/20 when the other unit fades away.

My chevy farm was 7 unit strong all in 2 wdr, but it was time after a 87 year stint to try another ford in 2 wdr as a farm buggy.

98 too 99% of our trips are on road, and we watch where we go so we don't need a tow or chain up. Mybro and best friend are 4x4 folk, so no need for all of us to have them since I'm the hwy/ parts run dude where 2x2 works fine.

I've had good luck in both, but 2x2 has always worked for me in trips across Canada and USA as I just rapped up a 1 year outing from coast too coast 2 x's Canada then the USA.

My 4x4 days are long gone since I'll rap up my days being a square head 2x2, fuel prices suck goats milk hear in Canada, and they will only continue to rise. I could buy a car, but that will never happen since I'm not packing gas or tractor parts in a car/ nor will I pull a trailer.

Good gas mileage truck with a junk box in the back, easy to get in and out of, less crap to wear down and savings on $100 to $120 shop rate, plus I get mixed match tires from auto wrecker pal for nill.

Frugal priced iron to travel more works for me, Ontario and Newfoundland have lots of 2 wdr as our farm family out there manage well getting around.

No one said it will be your last truck if the plan changes.

I have a 4x4 this time and previously 4x2's. Here in the northeast (North Jersey, southern NY and the Poconos), if I would used a boat ramp, drive off-road through mud and such, drive on the beach or pull a heavy load through wet grass or something, YES then for me 4x4 is needed if not then a 2 wheel drive would be fine. As for snow, my past 3 trucks were 2 wheel drive. I never got stuck even in the blizzards with 2 wheel drive. I'm one who stays up late all night just waiting for the snow to go driving. In the past 3 years I must of engaged the 4 wheel drive only 4 or so times, Just because it was there, never needed.

4x2 is ok as long as you keep it on the road and don't have to deal with snow. Otherwise, just get a 4x4.

The 4x2 trucks here in the northeast are almost viewed with disdain, and of course sell for thousands less than a similar 4x4. The new car dealers rarely bother ordering new 4x2 trucks. Most 4x2 trucks you will find around here are used stripped down work/fleet trucks.
