285/70r17
I'm sure this question has been tossed around frequently but I could never really get an answer after searching the web. So here it is.. 285/70r17... Is it a true 33? Or is it a 32? Thanks in advance

My 285/70-17s are also stamped 33x11.50 on the same tire.
There is a lot of confusion on the Web about tires and "running true to size". A tire manufacturer measures tires including the bulge of the sidewalls and while mounted to a specific width rim at a particular air pressure. That's where they get the measurements listed on their info sheets.
If you measure from the ground up without including the sidewall bulge, or if you use a different width wheel, or different air pressure, or with the weight of the truck on the tire, etc....you will get a different measurement.
So it's NOT that the measurements listed are wrong. It's just that everybody measures differently.
If you put a 285/70-17 next to a 33x12.50-17 you'll find that they are virtually identical depending on brand.
