Default 2016 XLT here. Is OEM bed extender the best ?

I thought the more seasoned F150 veterans here would have good experience with bed extenders.

Looking at getting the OEM plastic bed extender.
But is that the only thing in the market ?

I'm not sure how durable the plastic and the latching mechanism would be preventing something from sliding off the bed.

I'd prefer a one piece design made from metal tubes.

Is there anything like that ?
Any pictures..?

What do you suggest ?

I have no experience with the OEM one, but I guess the benefit is that it folds up out of the way when you don't need it. Personally I don't like the "arched" shape of it, seems like you're losing out on a lot of valuable real estate in the corners when using it since it really only extends to the center of the tailgate.

I'll probably get something more like this:

I like the rigid metal ones, plus I like using it as a bed divider when hauling smaller items that might roll around.

I thought this was metal tubing, but it's plastic.
Plus I think you need to drill holes into the bed wall as well.
Otherwise this seems to be pretty good.

It says right on the features page "constructed from lightweight aluminum".

You can set it inside the box to hold stuff from sliding around too far as well....very handy for a cooler or gas cans etc between the tailgate and it.....or drop the tailgate for longer items and flip it around onto the tailgate.
Tough little buggers to!
On rough roads they rattle some is thebonly downside i have found.

Ps. Mine is made of some sort of super strong high grade plastic.
It is not aluminum though.
Maybe they make both types?

West,
did you have to drill holes or were you able to install using the factory holes?

So no idea.
