Default 2015 Ford F150 7pin Trailer Tow Plug 12V Line

Hi,

I just registered on this site and I want to thank you for the wealth of information.

I am working on a 2015 F150 and I urgently need help with a problem.

This truck comes with a trailer hitch and a 7-pin trailer plug which is used to charge a tow trailer/camper battery.

I am struggling with using the 12V line on the trailer hitch 7pin connector to power a lift platform carrying a scooter.

It seems the 12V line from the 7pin connector senses the charge circuit on a trailer to come.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

Any idea how to activate the 12V line so I can make use of the 7pin tow plug?

Thanks

Joe

The trucks typically come with extra fuses (in the glove box) that have to be installed to activate the charging.

I have a 2015 and received no fuses or relays. On my 2012 I made a jumper for the replay socket so I could have 12v constant power to the 7 pin connector. I would really like to do this with my 2015, so far I can't find anything to do this. I may ultimately run a line from the battery directly to the pin on the connector.

I'm surprised they let you talk to the mechanic on the phone usually it is a service writer who knows nothing.

Have you looked in the manual? That's how I hooked up my 12V in my 2014.

You be surprised how many answers you find in THE MANUAL

I'm familiar with the previous models. I work at a towing and truck accessory shop so we install hitches and plugs all the time but haven't so far on a 2015 f150. There is nothing i have found in the manual that relates to trailer tow battery charge.

Shot in the dark. Did you try it with the engine on? just checked my 2015 engine must be on. In past years they were wired the same way but it was a simple matter to just replace the relay with a short jumper so the plug was hot all the time. getting ready to do same on my 15 but nothing in manual to describe relay location will have to research.

Yes. For Fords the ignition has to be turned to accessory for the 12v pin to be hot.

....AND as I found out on my 2015, in order for the battery charge wire to go hot you must first plug in the trailer, start the truck, and step on the brake to let the truck acknowledge the trailer. A message will pop up in the message center in the dash that a trailer is now connected. Not sure how you will be able to use that plug for what you want since this is the new process. My 2013 did come with the relay that you had to install under the hood to activate the 12v charge wire. the 2015's do NOT use this relay. Hope this helps.
