Default 1989 f-150 what transmission should I have?

I have a 1989 ford f150 4x4 with a 5.8ltr and an automatic transmission.
I got it from a guy that attempted to replace the original transmission with what I believe is a c6 auto. I am having a heck of a time trying to find out exactly what transmission Im actually supposed to have? is it an aod or an a4od? Is there an easy cost affective way to make the c6 work? or am i best to pull it and sell the c6 and buy the proper one? the c6 is out of a 84 bronco with a 351.
could I use the c6 ditch the computer and get a new intake manifold and convert it to a carburetor ?
thanks
Ryan

C6 needs a vacuum line and that's about it, back up lights might be an issue.

You can easily make the C6 work, but you won't have overdrive. It could have been the AOD or the E4OD, depends on what plugs are dangling under the truck. Not quite that simple to go carbureted, and it won't be emissions legal.

really? it cant be that easy. If I get a pic of the plugs on the truck side will you guys be able to tell me what was there? It was my understanding that the truck wont even start or run without the proper transmission /neutral safety switch? I got the truck with the c6 already installed (guy gave up on it and gave it to me) the plugs from the trans to the truck dont match up obviously. sorry for the total noob questions Im not really a " ford guy" so I don't really know diddly squat about these trucks.

What does it do, or not do, when you try to start it?

nothing. the guy I got it from put a new starter and solenoid in it. I replaced the starter as teh new one was junk too. when you turn the key it doesn't even click. when you jump the terminals on the starter solenoid it arks but wont spin the starter.

everything is hooked up except the shift linkage and the wires (plugs dont match)

Well, there's a problem with the starter or the engine is siezed. The engine will run without the transmission plugs on, but the key won't work the starter because of it.
