2013 fx4 vibration noise when I shift into park
#271
If it's making a growling noise during shifts, as your shifter passes from park to drive/reverse or after its parked these are NOT normal. Don't let your dealer deny it. It may be hard for them to reproduce as I'm sure you are aware from other posts on this forum. My experience was 8 visits to the dealer. I wish I could charge Ford my billable rate for the time I spent driving back and forth and the days without a vehicle. At least my dealer didn't tell me to ignore it. Their philosophy is customers won't take the time to complain and come back over and over again for nothing. So they tried.

Ive often wondered how many of these trucks are out there that have this issue that is ignored ... Such as "lease" vehicles. I'm amazed at how all these dealers are schooled from the manufacture. The dealer I "was" working with was very eager to solve this issue until they made contact with the Ford tech department.

It was intermittent for me. Perhaps a few times a week at first. Anecdotally it may be more common if you are on a slight slope when parking but I was never sure of that. It may start happening during some shifts and as the shift lever passes from park to drive or reverse. Good luck with your dealer. Convincing them is the hardest part.

Frank I agree with what you said

IMO the local dealerships are trying harder than the regional techs. Telling people these noises are with in specs is silly. Supposedly we bought high quality ford products not trucks that growl or ping. Good luck to you all once the dealership goes to the regional techs.

Truck has been out of the ship for a few weeks. Problem is gone. Shifts 100% better and I've have a noticeable increase in seat of the pants acceleration. The truck shifts smooth, there is no more hunting for gears, and the groan noise is gone.
They replaced the Valve Body Separator Plate, changed the Trans fluid, and reset the control module.
Paint looks ok, although not perfect, you can see swirl marks from the buffer.
Thanks,
Badluck

Happy Camper
They have reproduced the noise and are still saying that it is within normal specs. They checked my fuel trims and said they were causing the issue. I didn't get out of the parking lot before it was making the noise again. So I printed off this forum and showed them and they said they would look into it.

Well two different dealerships, and Im still dealing with this on a 50k dollar truck that's basically brand new. Im so damn pissed!!! My dealer said they wont do the fix if they cant produce the noise despite all the videos I showed them on my phone.
