Default 2013 F150 transmission problems

Purchased my brand new 2013 F150 V-8 King Ranch in Sept. I have approx. 5K miles on the truck, at around 4K mi I started noticing the transmission would occasionally "bump" when down shifting from 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st. Also noticed that after coming to a complete stop the truck would occasionally "lurch" forward as if someone had nudged my rear bumper. Took the truck to the dealership and of course they can find no problems....so they re-flashed the computer and sent me on my way. Problem is this is happening again and the wife (who never notices when car issues arise) has even noticed when the truck does this. I've read several other recent posts about this so it seems that a few people have noticed the same...I'm curious if anyone else is having this issue? Starting to drive me crazy b/c it's a brand new truck and explaining the "phantom" transmission issue to the dealership is maddening!

Take it back and ask them to hook up the customer flight recorder with transmission priority set then when it happens you can push a button and capture everything the trans is doing when it acts up. I don't know if it's the same type of CFR like I used years ago but they do have it.

Rnlcomp, thank you. I purchased an SCT Tuner from 5 Star and installed it AFTER the first visit to the dealership...I tried reprogramming my truck back to factory settings before I drive it back to the dealer but it gives me two error messages and it appears the truck won't take the factory program....If I take it back to the dealership with the "altered" tune do you think they will blame it on the tuner and screw me?

That is a very good possibility. Contact what ever company you got the tuner from and get a fix so you can go back stock before you go in.

But, the PCM will still show that it's been tampered with if they decide to look for it.

Good luck in any event.

You have an amazing transmission. Downshift from 3rd to 2nd is not seen when slowing down by many on these trucks. Yours is kind of special. Most of us see a down shift from 3rd to 1st when slowing. Are you sure you have a new F-150?

Lost is right, I checked mine this afternoon on the way home and it shifts from 3rd to 1st when slowing down, at least that's what shows up on the dash display. While your in drive press the + key on your shifter and the gears will show up on the right side of the screen, watch it when slowing down.

I never paid any attention to it till he said that. Learn something new about my truck every time I turn around LOL.

Only time my truck down shifts from 3rd 2nd 1st is in tow hall if not just shifting my self but most of the time I never look when it down shifts on it's own but I do know that some times I get what I call is a kick realllyy hard like I hit something I call it a tranny kick. From 3rd to 2nd or 2nd to 1st it's crazy but I never took it to ford to check it out cause it I never though that it was anything bad it happens in most cars/trucks I ever drove or rode in? Jinx? Maybe lol,

Once my I shifted to 1 from 30 and the trans got locked up in 2nd gear that was scary but I put it in Neutral and killed it off and back on it. When on just fine from there, still get trannykicks though.

@Vinneysleepas- thank you for the reply since it nearly validates what I am trying to describe. My question to you is why would you think this is normal? I have driven plenty of cars, trucks, tractors, forklifts, boats, etc and the only time I have ever experienced something like this was when I owned an Acura MDX and the SOB transmission went out completely. What I am experiencing with this brand new F150 is concerning b/c it reminds me of the MDX experience. Bottom line is that I called the dealer today and have an appt. to take the truck in for them to inspect this week. All I can say is that this is NOT normal and there is no way that I can see to justify it as such. I've done enough research to know that there are other people who have experienced this and it isn't normal...it's a problem...some have had to take their truck in and have the entire transmission pulled. I hope this post helps anyone else who is having a similar experience know they aren't the only one!

It's spelled loser. Looser is that thing rattling around between your ears. And why do you think I'd be up after 1:00am? I'm a couple hours earlier.

Main point is I don't believe you have a Ford. The Dodge downshifts like you describe.
