Oil in the spark plug well?
Hello all, new member here!
I have a 2007 F-150 4.6L V8 and the check engine light came on a few months back after it began to idle roughly. The code signaled a misfire. I pulled the spark plug to change it and there was a considerable amount of oil in the well, on the COP, and on the threads of the spark plug also. I changed the plug, cleaned up the oil and all was well for a while and now the same problem is happening.
Reading through some old posts on forums I decided that valve cover gasket may be the problem. I have now pulled the valve cover and there isn't any sign of oil leaking through the gasket and once I got in there and started thinking about it - there really isn't a way for oil to leak upwards to the spark plugs! I haven't replaced the gasket yet but I don't think that is the problem anymore. If I do replace the gasket and clean out the spark plug well it will likely be a month or so before the problem arises again.
I also know that it is not an occurence where oil was spilled while changing the oil either, so
what do you guys think the problem may be?
what are the next steps to take?
Thanks in advance!
