Thumbs down 2013 5.0 big problems, under 5,000km!

Hey just thought I would let you all know of the issues I have been having with my brand new f150 STX.

First a little about the truck; its a 2013 f150 regular cab short box with an electronic locking diff, 3.73 gears. Bought just over a month ago, have 4,300 km on it.

Since day one: rear diff howl at around 95 km, shudders at 35 km, de-accelerating (no braking). Brought it into dealership, first a bunch of bull trying to figure out what it was... did some tests, THEY found that the transfer case was screwed (grinding BAD), good thing I haven't even used 4x4 yet!

Anyways, they refuse to fix the transfer case.. said its just debris... hmm, thanks for nothing.

Eventually had the rear diff fixed, well the gears... still was not right, so they replaced the whole thing... guess what... It still has the exact same issues!!! Just took it home from the shop yesterday evening.

Also the windows whistle really bad and the passenger door clunks when you hit bumps...

Oh, last but not least, it has a weird noise at the 1st to 2nd gear rev limiter... haven't talked to Ford about that one yet.

So needless to say, I will be fighting with them to return the truck, obviously bought a lemon. Used to be a die hard Ford fan, I will probably never be buying one again after this **** show. Don't get me wrong, its fast and is pretty decent on fuel... but any reg cab shorty should be!

Anyone else had so many issues with a brand new 5.0.

I will keep you posted when I call Ford Canada and try to get something done....

Yeah it's not uncommon to see craptastic dealers/service departments regardless of make, model or type of vehicle. I'd suggest taking dieselhunter44 advice.

I don't see where the problem with the 5.0L is?

If I were in your situation I would be making quite a stink at the dealership. I'd be calling ford customer service and registering a complaint while sitting in front of the manager.
If you recreated the problem that has been plaguing your truck and they refuse to fix it, Ford Canada will make them.
Also, about the rattling passenger door. My truck did the same thing and all it was, was the the seatbelt wasn't falling down to the stop and it would rattle against the B pillar with every bump.
One more thing, what "sounds" is your truck making at the rev limiter? Even though it's your truck I just thought I would tell you it's a bad idea to be hitting the rev limiter with less than 5000kms on your truck. Just proper "breaking in" procedures. But hell it's not my truck so just a thought.

alright, so it sounds like an exhaust leak, only at a high rev, 1st into 2nd gear... although I am sure no one has ever raced someone in their new truck before...lol... strange. and I have also been told that you are not supposed to baby your new vehicle, you have to drive it how you drive from the get-go so your computer adjusts accordingly.

the rattling door is not a rattle. it is a clunk, like the whole body panel moves. regardless, my main concerns are the driveability of the truck. I know fords have always had issues with the rear ends, I used to own an 04 fx4, same thing... but if that's the only problems with the truck then so be it, still kicks the crap out of a dodge!

my main complaint is the way the dealership is handling the situation.

The point of my post is to see if anyone has heard of such big problems so soon. and what their dealership is doing about it? and may not necessarily be the 5.0 itself, its just when I was looking up new f150 issues all that came up was the eco boost, so this way when other people look it up this will come up...

like I said, I will keep you posted on what goes on here

Thank you Ashley! I will send you a message asap.

So I have talked to Ford Canada's customer service rep, he is looking into it, will give me info when he knows something...

Had a hilarious phone call yesterday for my dealership... so apparently the truck is supposed to make these noises (the rear diff and transfer case), they "all" do it. Its normal and there is nothing wrong with my truck! well I hate to break it to my "fully trained and licensed" technicians, but these are not normal sounds!!

Aahhh this is so frustrating... I hope with some help of the head office people we can come to a conclusion.

if anyone has a base truck (no carpet, reg cab, short box) could you please let me know if your transfer case grinds when you put in 4 high, or if your truck shudders when slowing down (not braking) or howls at 90 km or so? I'm sure the answers will be NO, but lets find out for fun...

Default Getting worse...

Just an update... Still dealing with the issues. Took it to another dealership, they supposedly can't figure it out either. It's damn near impossible to get a hold of ford canada cuz of my work schedule. The truck now has 12,000 km on it. It's getting really clunky now... Had someone take the plug out of the rear diff not to long ago, had metal filings and the oil was a milky grey color. I will keep bugging ford and try to get something figured out... For now, they keep telling me there is nothing wrong with it and "they all sound like that" so I am just going to keep driving it and hopefully the damn thing will just bust!

If you can't call Ford try sending a few Emails. Or talk to the service ppl on here. They've resolved a few problems from what I've seen and are here to help you out.
Sucks to hear you haven't found a fix yet and hope you get the problems fixed soon man.

So what is the red line on the 5.0? Not sure there is a gear rev limiter... holding it in 1st until the engine rev limiter kicks in, then upshifting... I bet it makes all sorts of noise
