Default 2011 'F150' windshield decal

My buddy just bought a 2011 Ecoboost and on the inside of his windshield at the top, behind his rear view mirror he has a really cool 'F150' decal. I really like how it looks and after seeing his I now want one for my 03' Heritage Edition.

Doesn anyone know if these are available to purchase? It might not even be a decal, it doesn't really even feel like one. I'm assuming the window might come etched with this on it from the factory maybe?

If anyone can shed some light on this I would really appreciate it !!

Its actually the same thermal paint that goes around the edges of the windshield. You might be able to find one for sale online from a company that makes them, but I wouldnt count on it.

My '11 XLT is the same. I thought it was inside the layers of the windshield. But, now you got me wondering how it's in there. I'll have to go look.

Yeah I love the look and would love to know how to get my hands on one. Might have to get one made cuz I've been searching Ebay and Google but haven't found anything yet.

My truck has it. It's between the glass. You could have a decal company just make a mirrored f 150 deal and stick it inside

I was thinking of putting the same logo in the same spot on the outside of the windshield in chrome vinyl lettering! Anybody done this yet?

Is it for sure between the glass? Because I can feel the decal on the window when I touch it... but it feels much more substantial than just a decal... feels almost rough... and more durable than just a decal.

If I remember correctly, what you're seeing is a ceramic material bonded to the glass when its manufactured. It is not a decal and it is not a paint (in the traditional sense.)

This material gives the urethane glue that OEMS use something better to bond to compared to plain glass, resulting in a stronger bond, which then allows the manufacturers to use the glass as more of a structural component to stiffen the chassis.

At some point the OEMs realized they could also use it aesthetically, and thus we have the F150 logo.

If you want to add this to your logo-less truck, you're going to have to have a graphics shop make a decal for you -- it's pretty much your only option.

Ok at least that clears it up then. Great write up BTW, gt40mkii !!! It's pretty cool how they're able to do that.

I might see if I can create a simular design in Photoshop and give it to my buddy who is able to make stuff like this. Thanks guys!!
