Default What is it...?

I have a 2005 F150 Supercrew 4wheel drive that has a large rubber bushing/dampner of some sort that is mounted to the rear frame on the left side. what is it and can it be removed... it weighs about 25lbs. and I see no real need for it.

A picture would help but I believe it is a bump stop so your suspension can't fully compress on itself which would cause damage

Nope, not a bump stop... those are on each side, and, have been removed since I installed air bags for towing... this is a large round piece of rubber, sort of suspended within a metal bracket. On the left side only.

I believe you are talking about a vibration dampener. They add items like those to eliminate vibration problems that were found after designs were finalized or after issues were found by customers. Remove it and see if you notice any unwanted vibrations. If not, don't worry about it.

I'm a firm believer that if the engineers put it there, it has purpose. I wouldn't be concerned about weight and if it's not in the way leave it.

I agree. 25 pounds in scale with the weight of the truck isn't going to make a difference. I'd leave it
