Thumbs up 2010 F150 Gott Mod twist... with Ford parts

Read a lot about Gott Mod on the site and my twist came with some help from a car nut friend. (spent his youth at the drag track...)
Went the basic inexpensive rout on air intake... K&N in the factory box, did the gott mod... but to ensure no water ingestion and to draw the cooler air from the fender well, my buddy suggested I get the F250 snorkel to ensure the air box is connected through the rubber fender skirt as it should be. I think 2008 to 2011 are the same air box on 150,s and 250,s and that is why he suggested the part swap...

Suprise... the F250 part is half the cost of the F150 snorkel ($8.51 Can. at Ford dealer!). The snorkel opening is almost 50% bigger in area (over 3.125 inches dia.) It fits in the stock air box, where you remove the old one, with a snap, no mods, can be returned to stock.
Reset the computor... sounds nice and throaty and performs fine after a week of towing and touring.

Here are a couple of low res shots. First, the two snorkels compared. Second, the 250 snorkel snaped into the box. The new one drops through the rubber fender skirt easily when the air box is set in place due to the factory splits in the hole. Lost the part bill so have no part No. (sorry). Just order snorkel for 2010 F250 6.8 L, its the same air box and snap in opening.
Cheers.

I've always done both but I think most people do just the negative. T leave it off for about 30 mins to clear everything.

Not sure if the 2012 air box is the same, but a good parts guy will cross ref. it in a second for you. Thats how I confirmed it when I ordered the part. The cool thing is it is an inexpensive genuine Ford part.

I have used the neg terminal simply because that is what I have read more experienced posters on the forum have done for many such tasks.

Have fun!
