Default Platinum Front Grille

As many have discussed in the past.. I'm looking to change my Platinum front grid over to the Limited. The chrome border on the Platinum grille is a little much for me.

My question is this... The Ford parts diagram forces you to buy the entire replacement grille for $600+. Am I able to remove the outer chrome border and replace just that piece with one that's tuxedo black from another grille??

Thanks

It will be cheaper to take her to a good body shop, and have the surround painted. Cost me 200 bucks for my guy to remove, paint, and re-install.

The body shop felt ok about the bond the paint would have on the finish that was there?

Is the outer piece fairly easy to remove and reinstall?

The body shop, or you will need to remove the entire grill. They will tape it off before painting. They will lightly sand, and use an adhesive promoter to make the paint stick. Our friend mbullock is the resident body shop expert, so he knows it will work out just fine.

Not sure if those plat grilles separate from the surround.

Yes, make sure they use adhesion promoter. I use bulldog. Make sure they flex the sealer. And make sure they activate the base coat.

My guy didn't take it apart. He may have found it easier to tape off than pull it apart.

Not certain about the plat grille but the xlt grille is 5 separate pieces,(this is for a 2013) I disliked all the chrome as well so I bought the same year model grille with already PTM surround and did some transplanting.
