2004 F150 5.4l P0012 code gas smell w rough idle

2004 F150 5.4l P0012 code gas smell w rough idle
I just bought this truck about 3 months ago and it has right at 100000 miles. Ran great for those three months then one day going down the road it started bucking and flashed the P0012 code at me. After that came the rough idle, but truck never dies. Took her back to the garage cleaned air filter, MAF sensor, fuel filter, and unplugged vct solenoid on passenger side for a second and then back in. Truck ran great for two weeks then all of a sudden the miss is back with the code. Also, now when truck is at a stop light i can smell gas fumes through the heater. The MPG has dropped noticeable as well down to 12 mpg. Could this just be a vct solenoid gone bad, throttle body needing cleaned?
