Default 2001 F150 SC Fuelpump problem??

I also have an F150 Super Crew withthe 5.4 Engine. I love the truck it is a 2001 and has never given me a problem of any kind. About a week ago I moved it out of the driveway to mow the lawn and went to return it and it wouldn't start. Tried several times over several hours with no luck. Finally about 5 or six hours later it started right up.
It ran fine for about five days , then I stopped at a store and it would n't start. I left it there and tried to start it five times over two days with no luck. On the third day I called a tow truck to come get it and you guessed it , it started right up. Since it had all the symptoms of "Fuel Pump" problems it went to my mechanic. He could not find anything wrong with it. I'm afraid to take it and drive it again as I know I will get stuck.
The truck seems to sputter for lack of fuel when turning the key . Can't think of anything other than fuel pump. Do they sometimes work and gradually wear out??

Default Ref 2001 f150 fuel pump issues

I have the exact same problem with my truck. But with me. It does the oposit. It will run for a few weeks and then i will try to start it and nothing or it will try to run and then stall. Then i turn off all the interior stuff IE Radio air etc. I turn the key to the on off possition a few times until i can hear the fuel pump run. I keep the key in the acc position until i hear somthing under the hood make a sound like somthing has charged up. I am assuming that it is the pressur regulator working i don't know. But once i hear that sound my truck fires right. Then a few weeks later it will do it again. and i go thru the same rootine. The other thing i notice is that my truck will shudder likes it's missing for a few miles or more after it does this thing with the fuel pump. Now my question to you is this. I seem to be burning the plugs in the middle cylinders of my 4.6 engin. I was told that it is running rich or becuase of low or imprper fuel pressure. But then again i was also told by my ford dealer that the pump works or it dont But then again I wa also told that there is a connector at the top of the tank that rots out and is shorting out. I have checked to see if there is a recall or a TSB and i have found nothing, Usually when it is Fuel related they allways send out a Technical Service Bulletin. Anyway if you can let me know what you find out on your end, I will let you know what i find out on my end.. Thanks my name is Tony from Temecula Ca.
