Switching from P to LT Tires
Im buying a new set of tires here in the next 2 weeks and am really debating on what to actually get for the truck. I currently have 275/65/18 Goodyear SR-A. I was thinking of upgrading to General Grabber AT2 LT275/70/18. Ive read mixed reviews in many different places about switching to LT tires. What do you guys think? Is it worth it??
And I tow rarely, but do get off the road during hunting season a bit.

If you don't tow or haul heavy loads the LT tire will be overkill. Not to mention a lot stiffer ride.
You're better off staying with the P tire.

I went with LT275/70/18 Duratrac's on mine. Honestly, the ride is a little bit stiffer but not anywhere near as bad as some people make it sound in my opinion. I feel little bumps/imperfections in the road more and sharp bumps like expansion joints are a little rougher. If I had to compare it to anything, the ride stiffness kind of feels like that of my 2002 FX4 with P rated tires, but the truck still has a nicer ride than my 2002 did in the end.

I just bought a set of all terrain P tires for my truck, pretty stout compared to the stock I have now. 275/65/18 Cooper AT3, they also have a $70 rebate direct from Cooper, form to fill out on their website.
Yeah I also opted for new rims but they are 18 as well, just a little wider than stock.
Plenty of 18 options available, go to www.tirerack.com and input your truck info. They even have a visualizer so you can see what they will look like before you buy.

I Like Tires
Off-road benefit is a little bit tougher tire, does that require an LT-Metric though? No, just find a tire that has a 3-ply sidewall like the BFG AT and many other AT/MT. The cords that make up the plies are a little bit thicker on the LT-Metric, however having that extra body ply will make the biggest difference wether LT or P-Metric.
LT Metric
Pros: Slightly stronger plies, better performance under a load
Cons: Heavier, More rolling resistance, Less MPGs, rough ride quality.
P Metric
Pros: Lighter, Low Rolling Resistance, better MPG, good ride quality
Cons: Slightly weaker plies, Not as sturdy under a load

I am think of switching from P to LT just because the tire I want has the winter snowflake designation in LT only. I am concerned about the extra weight but from the research I have done it will still be lighter than the factory 20's with P rates. Hopefully the ride doesn't get too rough but the P rate SRA's do flex a bit too much in my opinion anyways.
