Default 2.7 w/ tow package and 3.73

Sorry guys I'm really new at this, I don't know anything about towing (or trucks) obviously and don't plan on towing. Thank you in advance for your patience and help.

The 2.7 I'm looking at has a 3.73 electronic locking $570 with the tow package $695. Why would the dealer order it configured this way instead of just getting the payload package which comes with the 3.73?

Don't really know all the trim packages on the 15's yet, my guess is the payload package doesn't include the rear lock differential. I don't think $570 is a bad deal at all on the rear locker. Is it 2wd or 4x4? If it's 2wd i'd say it is almost a must have, 4x4 you probably could get by without if your not planning on doing any real serious off-roading or major snow in your area. The rear locker wasn't designed for towing, it is only functional "if engaged" to operate at 30mph or under.

The payload package includes the 3.73. It's a 2wd drive. I live in California no snow. Don't plan on towing or off roading. So basically I would be getting a bunch of stuff that I won't need but is good for resale?

Yes would be good for re-sale. Again $570 is not a bad price at all for that option, i'd go with it especially since it's a 2wd. If that rear differential is in the locked position, both rear wheels turn at the same rate, no limited slip whatsoever...full positive traction from the rear wheels. Well worth it in my opinion and it will help in re-sale if you ever decide to get rid of the truck.
