Default low oil pressure

i have a 1994 f 150 ,4.9 l ,4wd, 170k miles. this may be a long story, be forewarned. the truck cost me $1500 three years ago and really doesn't owe me a dime. i'm a contractor by trade and it has hauled its share of the load. to date i estimate around $1400 because i totally redid the front end. bearings, balljoints, tierods and ends, calipers.rotors u/v joints, gasmagnum shocks... etc . a typical work truck that we keep going to do our job . now the problem is that i have just an analog display for the oil pressure/ L... normal ...H..., the truck has always been on the "m". now it's down to around "N" but not lower. new oil change did not rectify the reading {oil filter clogged/ etc} so do you think the pump may be on it's way out? pain in the butt but i can do it.now it also needs a new exhaust this spring and also upping the leaf springs to 3/4 ton... and some body work, which is nothing i can't handle. BUT i also have a 1986 F250 that i've been fixing up, solid truck, but the motor has some prob, { earlier thread told about the smokescreen] if all was right with my world i'd do them both but i think one has to go..an engine @ 400 from a yard installed @ 600 total doesn't make me want to fix the 94, except for the fact the wife wants it,[do i sell her cutlass?] quite a quandry here but i'm more interested in the outcome of the oil pressure situation comments because i have to go to work every day [ yea me] i know there is more you want to know but i covered most of it i hope

Change the oil pressure sending unit and see if it improves. They get crapped up and give false readings.

Ditto on what Sean said I had an 84 Econline 1 ton w a 460 that scared the crap out of me on a road trip all of a sudden goes real low then back up and so on with no associated bad noises so I changed oil and still the same and someone said the sending units had problems with fords so stuck a new one on and miracle it's all back to mid range on the guage!!Yahoo!!
