'02 5.4L cranks but won't start
Hello,
My '02 100k 5.4L cranks but won't start. So far I looked at the fuel safety shut off to see if it needed to be reset, it didn't. I then disconnected the battery for a minute and reconnected it, this didn't do the trick either. If I turn the key on for a few seconds, not trying to start it, there's a single slight clunk coming from the engine compartment. The gauges swing all the way to max and the theft light flashes, the doors lock at this time as well and unless I'm mistaken, I don't hear the fuel pump coming on. For some background, this is my second vehicle so I don't drive it all the time. I ran it about two weeks ago and at the time, and for a period after that, it rained profusely. Water gets in the truck somehow as well, just haven't pin pointed the leak yet. Currently it's dam cold, around 20 degrees fahrenheit. The truck typically runs great and this is the first time I've had such an issue since owning the truck for about three years.
Any ideas as to what to try next?
In addition, I only have one chipped key so I can't readily try another to see if that's the issue.

It warmed up the other day so I was able to spend some time working on the truck.
The first thing I did was hit the fuel tank with a rubber mallet, which is a popular suggestion online and from a dealership mechanic as well. This didn't work.
The next thing I did was whack the steering column with the mallet, which was another recommended procedure, this also failed.
I then checked all the fuses inside and under the hood, all looked good. The last thing I did was swap out relay 301 with 304, this also failed to fire up the truck.
I had my locksmith friend recheck my key and again he said it appeared to be fine.
I may buy a new relay just in case both happen to be bad but I know that is unlikely. The only thing I think I can check now is the "GEM" module, as these can get water in them from a leaky windshield, which I may have as I do get water in the truck after a rain, although, I think the water enters from the back window so that is an unlikely culprit as well. Any ideas before I am forced to drag this thing to the stealership?

Have you tried spraying starting fluid in the intake? If it starts..that would rule out lack of spark.

Thanks for the link 2ndf150, it was helpful.
So, thinking I have a fuel issue, I jumped the appropriate terminals where the fuel pump relay sits, just to power the pump to see what happens. Nothing happened, no noise, no hum, nada. I noticed some sparking on my jumper wire so the pump must be drawing something but it's just not pumping? My question, is changing the fuel pump in these trucks something an everyday mechanic can do or do I have to take it to the dealership?
