What are the chances my oil drain threads are stripped?
Took the truck in for the first oil change today. It was free so I went to the dealer. I also had ordered an ez drain plug from MPD and asked them to install that so that subsequent oil changes were easier.
Well, apparently MPD shipped me the wrong part and to make matters worse, the tech cross threaded the stupid thing. Damnit. Instead of stopping at the first sign of resistance, the tech proceeded to drive the damn thing in almost all the way.
Well, they reinstalled the stock plug and it does not seem that there are any leaks, but I am majorly worried that they stripped the threads in the pan. What are the chances the pan threads are fine and the ez drain plug simply stripped?

get under your goddamn truck and figure it out.
goodluck. i wouldnt pay for anymore oil i would make ford pay for their ****up

Yes, I was serious. I am not sure how I am going to get under my truck and figure it out - I just got the oil changed and have no reason to disrupt the plug for another couple of months??!
A helpful post elsewhere informed me that the pan is steel and the fitting aluminum. Thus, it is highly unlikely that the pan threads are stripped while the fitting was toasted.
I agree I will have Ford pay for a new pan if it is stripped.... I took a picture of the smoked fitting right there on the service manager's desk and recorded he and the tech telling me the pan was OK when they cross-threaded the fitting.
I think I am good on this one. Thanks!

The bad news is, that it was unlikely that it was a "tech" who did the oil change. When they're busy or the "real" techs don't want to do it, they often get the guy who's the shop gopher/broom pusher to do it. (what's so hard about an oil change, huh?)
The one time Ford did do an oil change on my truck (hey, it was free, ok?), I specifically asked for a licensed tech to do it. And after a brief look of disbelief from the service writer, he noted my request on the service order. Then I stood there and watched the guy do it. I made it pleasant on the guy, light conversation about what he likes working on the most, etc...
I do all my own oil changes otherwise.
Just a heads up.
