Ok i know this is monstly for F series trucks but it should be a simple quiestion. Our company E-450 super duty (1999 V-10) box truck around 35 mph the front end starts to viberate alot and its been hesataitng alot latley and its never done this it smells like burning oil and idols rough sometimes. the front end was just re-biult ball joints, inner and outer tie-rod ends all that stuff. The truck has 65,000 in it and has always been maintained. if it is a coil 1. is it bad to drive on it 2. the truck idols sometimes for 24 hours at a time due to the 12v on-board gennerator fan. 3 is it even a coil

um are u sure its not a engine proble that what it sounds like to me if ur engine isnt getting oil then it will smell like that and it will shake a lot is it making any kind of noise

As far as the front end vibration - some other possibilities could be warped rotors, worn shocks, or out-of-balance wheels. In the case of warped rotors, should be more pronounced vibrations when braking.

By coil, I assume you're meaning the suspension coil as opposed to the ignition coil. If so, haven't heard of catastrophic failures being a known problem with these trucks - my experience is that the front end will sag, causing wear on the inner edges of the tires.

Burning oil smell could be something as simple as a valve cover gasket leak.

Since the truck has periods of extended idling - perhaps a tune-up, an injector cleaning, and IAC inspection would be first steps.

today i picked up the truck it needed 2 ignition coils one on the 5th cylender and the first cyl. they were shot from idleing for too long. The mechanic said that the burning oil was probably form the un-combusted gas in the engine form the coils so 2k later it runs perfectly.

$2,000 for 2 coils?

I paid like $350 for 4 coils last week. Mine is a 2000 F350 V10 with 65k miles. Also idles quite a bit. However, There is a valve cover leak, causing oil to hit the coils. You may want to check that out too.

BTW: keep an eye out for rusted out exhaust manifold's, and sparkplugs blowing through the hood.

I looked into it and my boss got a whole lotta junk done to it also, every fluid changed, trans,oil, coolant, it also got brakes, 2 new front rotors and new calipers and a new cat.converter (there was a hole in the old one).
