Default Is there such thing as a reliable 6.0

I am thinking of getting a diesel and the 6.0 seem to be in my price. My dad has an 05 that never had any power upgrades on it and he has still had to do the egr repair and head studs. When its running good I love the way it tows. Fuel mileage is good also. Do I need to count on doing these repairs to all 6.0 or is it a roll of the dice. Thanks

yes definitely count on doing those repairs, just as insurance, better to spend 750 bucks up front instead of 5000 later if/when it blows up!
the guy s dad i bought my truck from paid 8500 to fix it afterword, he didnt know about or gambled and didnt do the fix before hand.

6.0 is a great engine! They have a couple minor issues but once fixed they are awesome. It would be my diesel of choice if I needed one. Head studs vs head bolts are a toss up. I've talked with ford engineers and I've been told they tested with studs but found no significance to the cost. I still use bolts on head gasket failure. Head gaskets don't fail as often as people think. I've worked on these since they were new and early testing always replaced head gaskets. then ford figured out it wasn't the issue most of the time. By that time everyone still replaces head gaskets because its what they were first taught and people don't like to be told different.

I had a pretty heavily modded '03 6.0L.... Address the known issues, take care of it; and it will take care of you.

That fella is kinda spotty on his information... I'd join Powerstroke.org. There is a lot more to be learned from that forum then there is from this guy. There is actually a running joke about this guy on the Powerstroke forums. Some of the stuff he says, well.... it's just plain stupid.

I have to agree with this. once the potential known problems are taken care of, the biggest thing is proper maintenance. treat it right and it'll last.

I have 3 6.0's right now and one has had no problems that is stock one is heavily modded from studs to the turbo so that shows they can take over 1000hp and the third I did egr delete and it's running sting with a chip and full 5". May do studs in it later. But my point is the 6.0 is a great engine after the ones that have issues are worked out and not all had them but like said earlier spend some in precaution is better then blowing one
