Default Opinions on a good super duty please

Hi all! I don't post much and I'm not a troll! Lol! I currently own a 2006 F150 with the 5.4 3v. I'm looking to upgrade to a diesel truck. I've looked at a 2008 f450 with the 6.4, but have read more negative than positive reviews on it. And also looked at 2006 f350 with the 6.0, but read reviews about the head gaskets going bad and being expensive to fix. I'm asking what would be a good/ reliable diesel to use as a daily driver. Negative and/ or positive opinions welcomed. Thank you, glen.

Yes both the 6.0L and 6.4L have/had their issues. Can't go wrong with the 7.3L, which you can get up to about a 2003 1/2 model year. The 7.3L is one of the most reliable diesel engines Ford put in a pickup. Also no major issues being reported with the current 6.7L. The 6.7L is certainly a powerhouse, but your into a 2011 and up model year. Which means even used, your not looking at getting one for cheap. I don't know much about the 6.4L, except talking to guy with a '08 6.4L that was on his third engine, who said the first two engines burnt up after only 50,000 miles each. I've heard there's a rather easy fix for to prevent the head gasket blow-out on the 6.0L, but I can't tell you what it is. I do still see a lot superduty's with the 6.0L on the road. Good luck on your search!

Todd

Bulletproof the 6.0 it's a great truck. Sounds great too. I'm on my way to pick up a 6.0 tonight. Already bulletproofed. Good luck with the search

I too love my 6.0 Powerstoke. It got a bad rap early on and it was hard to shake. Part of the problem was, it was the first totally electrically controlled diesel for Ford and they had no idea how to diagnosis or fix it early on. The bright side was, they sold literately millions of them, more than Dodge and Chevy combined during that era. That made the aftermarket thrive for that motor. At this point, that motor is well understood where the weak points were and how to fix them. The transmission in those trucks are really well made and very few problems have been reported with them.

It will cost some money getting it up to snuff, but with the very stout bottom end on those things...they will last a long time.

The 6.4 with a tune, intake, exhaust and the emissions deleted...is probably the most powerful diesel in a light duty truck. They are beasts, but again...there are things that need to be addressed.

The 6.7 is probably the most reliable from the factory. Ford learned from the previous generations what to look out for. However, one thing they didn't do is put a bed plate on the crank shaft. The bottom end is not as strong as the international built 7.3, 6.0, and 6.4.

luv my '12 6.7, it rocks.

Pulls a huge toyhauler grossing 25klbs like it's not even there, 4% grade, 1/4 throttle, 65mph and passing cars like they are standing still.

7.3, or 6.7, or stick with the V10. Can't go wrong with the V10.

I had a 14 6.7, it was fantastic, never did the delete/tune/exhaust, but it was a great truck. Didn't need to tow as much, so got a Raptor.

Just traded up to a 15 f-350 6.7 from a f-150 coyote, loved that Coyote but wanted to tow more than that trucks payload would let me. Love the 350!!!

Well, after a while researching and looking/dreaming, I found a truck that suits me,,,a 2013 f350 with the 6.2 gasser. 39000 Kms on it and its been " certified " by ford. I've only had it 4 days now, but absolutely love it. I just got to get used to the 6 speed trans. Thank you all for your opinions, much appreciated. Damn, all your trucks look awesome! Thanks again, I'm happy to be a part of this forum.
