Normal clear thinker-Having one heck of a time deciding
Hi Folks, Shawn from Tampa here. I have been lurking and reading for weeks..
I am about to purchase my first " truck". Coming out of a 2006 Yukon XL, which I paid for outright when new, and plan on keeping. Yes its a truck, but its really an SUV.
Essentially ALL of my driving will be around town, maybe some trips up north. Certainly around Florida. Camping trips. 2 kids 14 and 12, wife, Hamster (Hamster wont be coming in the truck)
What i'm deciding between:
1) 2015 4x4 King Ranch F150 ( $60k otd) 5.0 or 3.5
2) 2015 4x4 Platinum F150 ( $59k otd) 5.0 or 3.5
3) 2015 4x4 Platinum F250 ( gas) Bronze fire ( $54k otd-Sticker $58905 )
4) 2016 4x4 King Ranch F250( gas) White/brown ( $57300 otd-Sticker $61175) ( has 5th wheel hitch prep, which i'll never use and clearance lights, that I could do without)
My dilemna, and its hardly a tough one to have, is which of these great trucks to buy. I've driven them all extensively. I like them all.
If I go exclusively on gut, its the F250. Why? I am a big guy. 5'4 275 and it REALLY fits me well. The F150 fits fine too, maybe a LITTLE tight in the drivers compartmen, and is really a marvel of a vehicle. But it just doesnt feel like a truck to me..It drives like a large prius. Its TOO easy to drive!
So why don't I just run out and buy the F250? I don't know. Fear of MPG? I dont know, maybe. Coming out of my Yukon XL, I dont expect i'll feel any hit. Average on that throughout its very low 90k miles has been 13.9. Now if the average is 10 on the F250? Its not going to bankrupt me by any stretch, but you don't get into the position i'm in by simply tossing away money.
The ride of the F250. Yes I drove it, yes it was more truck-like. Stiffer. Certainly a more engaged and active ride. Makes you feel like more of an active participant. But over a long drive, does that add up to misery?
I have zero issues with the size. I whip my Yukonxl around like toyota tercel, so the F250 size is no issue.
I normally find whiny posts like this nauseating. and normally buy what I want decisively.
I am definitely leaning towards one of the F250's. I have a small concern that i'm buying the last year of the current body style and cabin, but I think i've decided I wont care. I've driven my YukonXL 9 years and havent given one **** about what the ones after mine looked like or had that mine didn't.
I guess it comes down to ride. Does anyone have an F250 simply because they wanted it? When the most it will carry is 2 kids, camping gear, tailgating, etc?
How is the ride long term on a trip in an F250? Which of the above would YOU pick if you were me?
I truly appreciate the input brothers.

I had a 2010 F150 that I recently traded for a F250. I needed the increase in payload. I like the 250 but do miss the comfort of the 150. Last week I spent the better part of a day driving around town in the 250 and did feel more fatigue. After a while I started to notice the lag of the diesel in the throttle response and the sound of the engine. On the open road this may not be an issue but around town I could tell the difference.
I know your not looking at the diesel but if you don't need the payload or tow capacity, I would go with the F150.

I truly appreciate that input, but i'm so used to driving the Yukon XL beast around town that I don't think I'll have that fatigue. I drove the F150 king ranch and the platinum. Thought they were truly great, but I just found them uninspiring. I almost felt like I could take a nap and let the car go on its own. lol

I would try to get another few thousand off that $54K. You shouldn't have to pay more than about $48-50K for it as it is last year's model. 8-11K off list tends to be the norm for wheelers and dealers. There is almost no difference between the 2015 and 2016. And Bronze Fire is an awesome color!

Thanks!
MSRP on the Bronze is about $58k. Getting it for $48k plus tax, etc.....
