Might go look at a 2001 F250 with a 7.3L
I just sold my 05 Ranger the other day, so I am looking at some new trucks. One dealership I might go to has a 2001 with a 7.3L, 105,000 miles and looks mint. Are there any specific things I should be looking/listening for? I haven't owned a diesel yet but a few friends have them, I know that when they break they are expensive to fix. Any common problems I should be aware of with these trucks?
I'll probably end up with a gasser but want to keep my options open. I do haul a little bit so diesels are always in the back of my mind, and I hear the 7.3 is the way to go with Fords.

Man, I stopped at a dealership on the way home (didn't get a chance to see the one I was looking at, would have had to take a completely different route home and I wanted to check out a few dealerships on my normal route) and they had a 2001 F250, ext. cab, 7.3L, 6 speed manual, 95,000 miles, for $14,000. I was ready to go to the bank Monday and get the money and drive down to pick it up, then I noticed that it had no manual hubs. Get on the ground and look, 2wd
So close! Keep looking I guess.

I like the "Engine Blown Up" option. What usually blows on the 6.0's? Would it be worth it to take a look and see if it's fixable?

Head gaskets, egr valve and head bolts are usually what went first. Sturdy that engine up and the 6.0L actually makes more power than the 7.3L. Thing is this little thing called "reliability"? What's that? Anyways if you replace the common fails on the 6.0 its a pretty decent engine.

the 6.0s arent too bad but the ones we have at work are junk.. we`ve replaced a motor in one...before it 100k.. and since then it eats egr coolers. the other have had alot of electrical problems... but thats my .02 cents... who know u may get lucky with a 6.0 but def grab the 7.3l... only thing i see go is a the cam positions sensor which takes 10 mins to do soo nothing major
