If you don't like chrome then why would you shell out the $ for a Platinum? They have more chrome than any trim I've ever seen.

they do still have enough mind you, but I always felt more chromed out on an XLT. agree on the king ranch though.

the tailgate panel wasn't really chrome until 13th gen which I forgot about being chrome now. the lettering ain't much. even the grille on a plat ain't really true chrome. nor are the stock rims, on a superduty plat. and they have PTM bumpers, which does wonders for the chrome level.

but agreed it's excessive....plats would look so much cleaner without it....or the lettering......I can read badges, see wheels, look at grilles, whatever cues theat truck might have, and see it's a plat. they don't need to shout it from the rooftops

I was referring to the 15 F-150 although the SDs have it too....fas as I know on both it's actual chrome for '15....I wouldn't call the 15 SD a 4th gen though....just a facelifted 3rd.

99-07 is the same gen to me. no more change than 10th gens underwent in 99. as to the panel if my eyes and pics/trucks I've seen don't deceive me, yes it was there before '15 but it was just silvery, vs the '15 being actual chrome

They were a lot further apart than the 99's were from the 97's. Different motors, suspension, interior, and front clip. Similar, but not the same generation.
