Hooking up 6.0L high idle, what am I doing wrong?

Default Hooking up 6.0L high idle, what am I doing wrong?

Hey guys, one day in owning my truck and I'm already screwing with it lol. Anyway, I'm trying to hook up the high idle on the truck and I want it on the aux 4 switch, so I connect the orange and blue (aux 4) wire to the purple and green wire (high idle), and it worked so I turned the truck off and went inside to eat dinner. After that I come back out to show my dad and it's not working. I figured maybe the truck had to be warmed up so I went into town to fuel up and came back, the truck was at operating temperature so I tried again and it wouldn't work.

So far I figured maybe the connection was bad, so I took the wire nut off and used a different one. Still no luck so I figured maybe when I was stripping the insulation from the wires I cut one out so I clipped the ends off both wires and used a new wire nut and still no luck. Anyone got any ideas?

This is my connection as of now, I'm using a wire nut until I know it works then I'm going to solder and heat shrink the connection.

Lol oh come on. You said in ur other thread we would get pics soon, I didnt think it would be of a wire nut. haha

Ok so I looked online and the Ebrake has to be down. Once I did that it works!

I took the truck on a drive got it to operating temp and tried it again with no luck though. Does this only work when the truck is cold?


EDIT:
I let the truck cool down and tried again and it works so I guess it only works when the truck is cold to warm it up?

Is that wired in Battery Charge Protection mode or PTO mode? I don't remember the wire colors off the top of my head. BCP mode only activates when the voltage drops below a certain point. I've always wired mine in PTO mode and used a fixed resistor to achieve approximately 1400 - 1500 rpm.

I honestly have no idea, I just watched a Youtube video and it showed the purple and green wire so that's what I hooked up to. I looked at the PDF file for the wires and here is the details of the one I have hooked up:

INPUT (VPWR)
BCPSW
PCM Pin C1-09 Circuit No. 2248 Wire Color: Purple / Lt. Green
• Applying vehicle battery voltage to this wire begins BCP.
• Engine speed is sent to 1200 rpm when all safety enablers are met, regardless
of the degree of battery charge.
• After 1200 rpm, BCP regulates engine speed based upon the degree of battery
charge, up to 2400 rpm maximum.


This is the other one that is available, not sure which one I need but here is the details on it:

INPUT (resistor)
PTO_RPM
PCM Pin C1-06 Circuit No. 2246 Wire Color: Orange / Yellow
• Add a resistor or potentiometer to obtain fixed or variable engine target speed.
• Combine in circuit with PTO-VREF and PTO_GND.
• Speed range available: 1200 rpm to 2400 rpm.

Thanks. Based on reading the above information, you should be getting at least 1200 rpm, even in BCP mode. I can't imagine why it only works cold.

So my only thought is it works sometimes because I have no E-brake. I push the pedal down but it will not hold the truck on a slight incline. No idea if that has anything to do with it, but I'm going to see what the deal is with the E-brake in the morning.

EDIT:
Doing a little research on it and people are saying it might take up to 15 seconds for it to kick on. I'll mess with this tomorrow and see if I'm just being impatient.

As long as the ebrake switch works you're good. Does the ebrake indicator light come on?
On my '11 the safety parameters (vehicle in park & ebrake on) have to be met prior to flipping the switch or the elevated idle won't activate. In other words, turning on the switch has to the last item in the order of events.
