Finally own a diesel!

Got a family friend deal on a '05 F250 Lariat crew short bed with 187k, nicely equipped, well maintained and not one issue with the 6.0. Has the 5 speed torqshift trans and 3.73 ratio. KBB private party is $14k and I paid $8k so very pleased. Love my wife, selling her SUV and she's taking over my '09 F150 crew 4x4. Looking forward to learning more about this truck and helping others any way I can.

Hope it is a good truck for you. Even ford people usually don't understand the 6.0 very well, it can be a great reliable engine although it had many potential issues. At least if a 6.0 has a problem it can usually be fixed, the 6.4 is the scary one. I just sold my 6.0 a month ago...

I only owned it a year and put 4K miles on it, did not modify engine really, just changed fluids and filters. I bought it just to make a custom truck out of, made it a regular cab short bed lowered it. Was very neat but not practical for me at all so I sold it...
I like the 6.0 though, mine started out as a cheap, abused fleet truck and had 225k miles (7400 hours I think) and everything worked as well as our 06 with 140k that we've owned since new. If I buy another, it would probably need several engine mods already done to it. It is very expensive to start with a bone stock one and buy the engine parts that I wanted.

In 2010 when I bought my 03 6.0 it was bone stock with 125k. Chopped the cat and muffler the 2nd day I had it. Then ended up putting $6000 in building the tranny after the stock went out and to handle what I had planned. I did then did the K&N CAI. 4"down pipe and 3 1/2 to a skirt blower /side dump. In front of the back tire. Started throwing a code so I bought a programmer and had it dyno'd and tuned . Then I started getting "stickion" in the injectors. So I did the baby swap. 25cc over stock. then my FICM went our twice and I ended up buying one from elite diesel 600 bucks after having ford program it to the truck And had it tuned again. 250 bucks. Then at 190k. The EGR went out. So I did the delete. Then back to the dyno to have it tuned again. But maxed out at 523HP and 745F/LBS and could 35 psi boost. I finally had the truck built how I wanted. And one day showing off I felt something funny in the tranny. And just got worse over the next month. I had the choice of putting another 6 grand in the tranny or selling the truck and buying my house.. I don't live in the trailer park anymore. But if I could I'd buy that truck right now. If you maintain the truck will be an awesome truck. The 05s don't have the loud whistle like the 03s but they still sound and run great

Well guys my standards for "well maintained" are a little higher than the guy I bought it from. Turns out the oil was very low (barely touching the very bottom of the dipstick) and leaking. Changing the oil lead me to believe it was leaking and low because it hadn't been changed in so long, the filter was in horrible shape. I also changed both fuel filters, never seen fuel filters look pitch black before. The air filter, bad shape as well. Used Motorcraft 15w40 oil and filters.

That's all bad news for 6.0s. Lack of oil and oil changed cause fuel system failures. And the injectors to start sticking. I always poured Lucas fuel injector cleaner down in my fuel filter housing on the intake. Just to give them a good shot of cleaner
