Default F150 vs F250.. Help

I have a 1997 f 150 and I'm ready to up grade, a bit. I can't afford a new truck so I'm going to spend around 12,000 on a used truck. I want a truck that will last and go 300,000 miles. For some reason I feel like the f250 last longer but maybe I'm wrong. If I do go with a f250 5.4 gas how is that motor? Or do I need to go diesel to get that kind of miles out of a motor? I would go with the f250 but I'm worried about gas too. Is the extra gas cost worth the larger truck in terms of the larger truck might last longer? I keep my trucks pretty well maintained. So in short I want the truck that will last the longest for the best price.
Thanks Jason

I know for sure that you can get 300,000 plus out of diesels and since you are towing a 5.4 f250 will be really underpowered but it will pull what u need just not very fast if its a manual trans its more if u want to pau the extra dollars for repairs and what not on a diesel

Why get a F250 with a 5.4. You are going to get worse gas mileage that a 150 but not the full towing capacity of a 250 diesel. Newer models last longer than they did 10 plus years ago. I'm getting a diesel 250 for my next truck.

I'd get a v10 over a 5.4 f250 any day

Get the cleanest 7.3 Power Stroke you can find. I've seen some for sale with 300k on the ODO. They're pretty good on fuel(lack of emissions equip.) and it should have the power to pull whatever you need.

Thank you every one for your input! I went with f150 5.4 and I'm very happy.
