Question Considering a 08 f250 5.4 seeking your review

I currently have an 06 5.4 150. it is beginning to ask for donations to the dealership. So I am going to trade it in. I want to move up to a 250 for more towing capacity - would like a new one but ain't going pay that much for one. I am looking at a 08 Lariat Crew with a 5.4. it has 24k miles and the dealer is asking what I consider to be a very good price $30k.
If anyone has an 08 with the same engine, I seek your honest review, and if you think it would be a good buy.

Dealing with superduties your better off to get bigger engine or even diesel with gas prices, also having a 5.4 in a f250? Some half tons have bigger engines then that it would only get like 10-13 mpg

I would definitely go with the diesel. Your right, the 5.4 does not seem very big for an f250.

If you want a gas powered superduty go with a V10. Bullet proof motor, but still chugs gas. 10-13mpg. Stay away from the 5.4 in the superduty, at least with a V10 you can tow a bit more

thanks for the input guys. I agree that a 5.4 in a HD wouldn't be the best choice. I will continue my search for a V10. Would really prefer a Diesel but don't want to be saddled with the maintenace cost.

Sound decision. My TD gets 11-12 around town, a friend with the same year 5.4 gets 8 on a good day. I have heard of folks with the V10 getting 10-11 in this area (suburban).
The SuperDuty's are a fair amount heavier than the 150's, the 5.4 is really not a good choice if you're going to actually use the truck.

best of luck!

I had an 08 w a 5.4 and average about 14.5 hwy and 12 or so in town. Im sure if you added a volant CAI and exhaust and sct you would be fine depending on your uses. Now with that said you might get a new 150 and be close on towing IMO

I've recently moved up to an F250 to pull a camper as well. I got the new 6.2 gas motor. It pulls my 10k lb 5th wheel pretty well. It's no diesel, but it pulls fine. I get about 13 in town, 15 on the highway, and 10-11 pulling. The truck only has 1k miles on it, so i'm hoping to see better numbers as the miles rack up. My 06' F150 5.4 didn't start getting decent milage until it hit 25k miles or so.

The 5.4 isn't a bad motor, but I don't think it's enough in a 3/4 ton truck.
