Best year for a diesel

If your going to trade, get a 7.3 or a cummins, all the motors after the 7.3 were "test motors" ford didn't really know how to build one as reliable as the 7.3 and the trans is all how the truck was takin care of. If it did alot of hauling, of course the trans is more than likely going to go out and stay away from chipped trucks an lifted ones, some people don't know how to set them up righ and that ruins the trans as well. As for the cummins they are so dependle and cheap to be worked on due to being an i6. And any year is good because they have kept the same blueprint from the 5.9. The 6.7 is the same as a 5.9 but bigger

7.3 reliable but slow. Still my fav and wish I still had mine.
6.0 takes 5k to make reliable
6.4 great after emission deletes, still mpg varies with deletes.
6.7 great engine now, better mpg
Had one of the first 6.7s and had a lot of trouble but now the kinks seem to be worked out.
Transmissions were great in all of them unless you are making crazy hp.

Or buy the new ford 6.7, id take them over the 6.7 cummins in a heartbeat. 6.4s are friggin nasty when you mod em. And 6.0 s become bulletproof after headstuds and all that other crap. And ive never met anyone who has had a 7.3 and didnt love it. Not the fastest truck but theres a reason it has the largest fan group in the ford family. Most of the time, even the duramax and cummins guys say its the one ford engine they like
