An 8 cylinder eco boost would be cool for sure! But from Fords standpoint it wouldn't make much sense. They don't want to cut into power stroke sales.

Economy of Scale. Try to look at it from a business perspective. The 2.7L is expected to get around 30% or so of the F-150 trucks. That is out of 500,000 trucks/ year or so. (these figures are off the top of my head, its late) However, there are only about 150k superduty trucks sold/ year. Now what percent of those would be a 5.0Ltt? The 6.2L is still a great entry level engine and the 6.7L will eat up the bulk of the sales. I would guess around 25% at the most. That is only around 40k engines vs. 170k on the 2.7tt It takes a lot of money to open up a new engine assembly line.

Even with 5.0 liters, a twin turbo would just not be as versatile as the V-10. It would not be acceptable in F-650/F-750 trucks like the tried and true V-10. Same goes for the F-450/F-550 Chassis platform. I just can't see a large RV with a twin turbo V-8.

I'd like to see a smaller, higher mpg diesel.
