Default Best "In between" Superduty engine (just throwing it out for kicks)

Quick sidenote to start - My F150 EcoScrew meets my needs just fine, but in the event I ever did upgrade or tow much heavier, the "what if" factor always sets in. Plus, I love diesel, but can't justify it at all. If I ever got one, it would be purely for love and not out of necessity.

In the Superduty series, there is a large gap between the 6.2V8 and the 6.7 Powerstroke.

Is there a best "in between" engine? IE...what do you think would bridge that gap? I'm curious. Would the existing 3.5 Ecoboost do the job? Or a single (or twin) turbo 5.0? Single turbo 6.2?

Also, economics comes into play. Ford isn't stupid. They'd love to put the $8200 option Powerstroke in all of their Superduties, but would a $2500 option be picked more than the standard 6.2? Or would a $2500 option cut into the $8200 6.7?

This is more just for discussion. I'm curious.

I dunno ram does that with their ecodiesel/ hemi option and still sells. I don't care if ford made the ps a 10000 option they would sell the hell out of them!!

I would own one with a $2500 eco boost option. But then again, I would have paid $4k for a diesel option in my f150.

I don't need 800+ ft lbs of torque. An in between engine would be nice. If Ram had put the 5.0 Cummins in their 2500, I would have looked hard at that.

Since Ford loves their ecoboosts and seem to be getting better at making them (2.7 better than 3.5) then this new high output 3.5 in some F250s or a new ecoboost that gets 500 horses and 550 ft lbs of torque, would give the power stroke a run for its money.

Then again that's probably why they haven't made it yet. But they will and it will sell.

No one needs 860lbs but oh boy is it fun, then tune it holy crap!! Ford won't ever do an in between motor, they want powerstrokes in mass numbers on the road. They will maybe beef up the 6.2 to keep fleets happy but no ecoboost will ever find its way in a super duty!!

If they can make an ecoboost engine in some variation that will compete stats wise with the 6.2 and 6.7 and is reliable enough they will do it.

I think reliability is the biggest if in this category because some people abuse the crap out of their super duties and the conditions are extreme the engine would have to be built to similar specs of the PS engine to handle it all. At that point though the purpose might be lost if the engine ends up costing similar to the diesel up charge.

A 7.0L gas motor with the same heads/valve train as the 6.2L, with 50 more HP and 75 more TQ at a lower RPM would do nice.

According to this article, there's a possibility that a 5.0 Ecoboost motor would go into Superduties. Interesting indeed.

^ Sounds like and unreliable source of an "insider"
How about an upgraded 6.8L V-10? After all this is one of the engines used in the
F-650/F-750 trucks. It will go in the 2017 F-450/F-550 chassis cabs as well. So why not the Super Duty line??

I would buy a twin turbo 5.0 in a super duty truck model. Why the heck not? If ford can turndown a 3.5 into a 2.7, why not turn it up to a 5.0 tt ecoboost?
