Aluminum Differential Covers
Has anyone put on an aluminum differential cover on the back of their super duty? There are only two brands that I know of, Afe and Mag Hytec. They are about $75 difference in price. I have no idea which is better, but i do know i am going to synthetic oil in the rear differential because of towing a lot. Thanks.

Do you have a problem now with exceeding your diff fluid temp range? Your rear end will not see a benefit from switching covers. I'm sure it might cool the diff fluid to some degree, but not enough to actually help you or justify the cost. If you need to have one, get the one you think looks the best. My factory cover is stamped steel.

I don't know what my temps are yet. I need to get my temp gun out and check. But I know mine is a regular stamped steel one as well. I do think they look good, but I am not sure if one is better than another. I know that the Mag - Hytec brand has been out on the market the longest, and it is also the most reasonably priced. If your truck has one on there, I am pretty sure Ford did not spend the $300 to put it on there for you.

Thermal Imager
According to my thermal imager, the rear differential only gets to about 118 degrees after driving unloaded about 20 miles. I also have the exhaust tip and some of under the hood at the diesel engine.
It will be interesting to see how hot it gets after heavy towing.

The big advantage I see with an aftermarket cover like the Mag-Hytec is the increase in oil capacity from 3.5 qts with stock cover to 6 qts with the Hytec. Hytec also uses a magnetic drain plug, a magnetic dip stick, and there is a 1/8" NPT port if you want to install a temperature sending unit.
I will probably install one on my truck next year.
