A Bit of Heresy: Chevy talk on a Ford forum:
Another embarrassing Powerstroke killer was a twin turbo 6.2 Chev/Allison employing a 9 litre Navistar inline pump. Boost pressure was 35psi. Running in a C10 with a transbrake Turbo 400 and Ford 9" 3.56:1 axle the rig ran 11 seconds flat at 115mph in the quarter. The tran shifted around 4500rpm. Estimated horsepower was 540.
But the king-of-the-hill is probably Gale Bank's slightly reworked 5.9 Cummins in a Dodge Dakota....ran better than 220 on the Salt Flats. A street version is detuned and runs only 156.
Speaking of Gale Banks: Banks had an F-bodied Camaro with a 483ci big block sporting twin turbos, a Richmond 6-speed and other various mods designed to make power and speed....1650hp at 7200rpm with 35psi boost...270mph on the flats. The car was streetable at low boost, 12psi, and managed 11mpg in city driving....but, there was no room under the hood for AC!
