6.4L Engine
im looking to trade in my f150 on a 2010 f250 with the 6.4l. are there any major things that go wrong with the truck? its mostly gonna be a daily driver to me and may haul cars around once and while.

In 2007, Ford had to recall some of the 6.4s due to flames shooting out of the exhaust. They have since fixed that problem i think. Personally, i have just heard several people tell me they did not like the 6.4 but never really mentioned why. They say the 6.7, 6.0, and the older 7.3 are the best engines out there. I own a 6.0 and have never had problems with it. In the end, that one recall due to flames is all i know about but since yours will be a 2010, that shouldn't be an issue. Hope this helps

dont know if im too late. but its good to hear that KingRanchDiesel hasnt had any problems out of his 6.0.. but from what i hear, its just the opposite (6.0s being bad and 6.4s being great). any who, i believe the 6.7 with the new tranny would be a great route if you are interested in a super duty

I just bought a 7.3 because of the research I had done on the different diesels. From what I've read the 6.4's havent had any big issues, like the cooling system on the 6.0, but the number one complaint has been the fuel mileage. Good luck if you decide to get a diesel. I sold my F150 to get mine and so far its been worth it. Make sure you ready for the up in maintenance cost though

like i said, i have yet to have any problems. the truck has been straighpiped since early january (still stock pipe) and i added a 5 inch tip. No problems, better mpg, and awesome sound

If I was going to go to another diesel I would find a 7.3. I have a new 6.7 and I am getting rid of it because the mpg, it is getting the mpg that a 6.4 gets. My 7.3 was great and I miss it.

The economy gets worse with miles. I bought it with the promise that it would blow my 7.3 mpg out of the water. With diesel being 40-50 cents higher and the 15mpg on hi way, I am trading it in. My dealer has had several come trade these back in because the mpg. The best I have gotten is 18.8 and that was the first tank. Declined ever since, and I have 10k on it.

damn that is pretty bad. hopefully Ford can work out some of the problems on the motor.. personally i really hope this 6.7/torqshift combo works out for the best. i think its great that a car manufacturer designed their own diesel for once. its a rare thing and i hope ford sticks with it.
